Today gamers all over Europe skipped school or work to get their hands on the new Xbox 360. In the UK Microsoft marked the birth of its new wonder child by throwing an Xbox 360 launch party in London. The overall situation in Europe seems to be the same as in the US. People standing in lines for hours and if you didn’t get one last night or in the early morning hours, your only bet to get a 360 now is through one of those overpriced internet auctions. However, if you feel you can wait 1 or 2 weeks you still might be able to get your hands on the 360 before Christmas. The UK Xbox boss Neil Thompson told GamesIndustry.biz in an interview today that there will be weekly shipments of 360s in the UK. "We're really going to focus all our efforts on getting as much stock in as possible, because the demand is proving to be phenomenal. Every week we're going to be shipping units in. We're doing all we can to get as many planes and ships through as fast as we can - so that's my guarantee to people, that that's the effort we're putting into it." This is pretty much the same as Microsoft has been saying to US gamers, and earlier today we were made aware of by our members that several stores in the US have received a second shipment of 360s. I have to say I'm very impressed with the console, to those that are undecided - I say get one, you won't be disappointed. To poster # 3 please stop posting BS, I doubt you even have a 360, get a life idiot. 360 is a great machine and I for one am very happy with it. Call of Duty 2 rocks and PGR3 looks fantastic, very fun racing game (the in car view is not to be missed!) Enough posting, time to hunt some serial killers in Condemned :p 6 -

Graphics are great! I´ve played call of duty 2 for a while (not in HD though) and I suppose it´s like on PC put on highest resolution but runs really smooth. I´m pretty pisssed about the hard drive though, I thought I´d be able to put downloaded movies on there and just play them but no! I have to stream them over with some stupid windows media connect software or something! There are two USB-ports on it, shouldn´t it be easier to just shove in a USB-memory containíng my movies and copy them right on the HD? Big dissapointment.. I know it´s made for playing games on but.. 14 -

I mean, easier? Xbox 360 Pro's and Con's IMOUnregistered - jaminbenuk 12.03.2005 06:41 Well here are a few things that i thought where bad about the xbox 360 IMO - unable to stream films from the pc(needs windows media pc), xbox live market place is ok but not all the items ie trailers work and u have to pay for a few items which should be free, graphicaly the games are good but not outstanding (my pc could proberly do PGR3 just as well), the headset and AV leads feel cheap but work ok, launch titles aren't the best, and its quite noisy when games are running. The good points - wireless controllers work really well, xbox live is very easy to setup and great fun(1st time using it for me), Gamer tag looks to be a good idea but havent had a proper look at it yet, interface(dashboard) is easy to navigate. Overall its a good system and will provide me with hours of gaming entertainment BUT at the end of the day its still only an xbox console with better graphics. 25 -

FreeMonk 12.03.2005 09:08 Well, I bought Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo, Call of Duty 2 and PGR3. My personal thoughts on each game:- Perfect Dark Zero - To be honest, not that keen at the moment. I've played the first 3 levels, and although it looks nices, the soundtrack is awesome, the game just doesn't play nice. To get cover, you have to wait until the 'A' button sign appears, you just can't get cover anywhere. Jump and roll looks nice, but is sometimes pointless. I'd prefer a jump button to a jump an roll. Rent before you buy! Kameo - I played for about 5-10 minutes when I got it, and wasn't to impressed, BUT I played it for around an hours today, and I've changed my mind. It's really really good. Looks gorgeous, yet again fantasic epic soundtrack and considering this is also a rare game, the voice acting is excellent. Definatly a good buy! Project Gotham Racing 3 - Great game if you like your driving sims. Looks gorgeous while playing, and Gotham TV is impressive as well. Not played a lot but great stuff! Call of Duty 2 - A MUST FOR FPS LOVERS! This game ROCKS!! Fantasic graphics, outstanding sounds effects, epic soundtrack and excellent voice acting. Full on action that never lets up, and it always surprises you with something new! (Wait until you enter the pipes, amazing!). GET THIS GAME!! Well, that's my review. Not tried them on Live! yet, but will do when I play them all a little more! 30 -

FreeMonk 12.03.2005 10:20 Anytime lozellis. As regards to Perfect Dark Zero, I think it's preferable choice. My best mate got PDZ as well, and he seems to like it, and he's not even got Live!, so he's stuck with just the singer player option. I'm personally a Halo player myself, and I'm just not keen on games with a jump feature. Plus, add the messed up 'Stealthy' sequences in the game, and it upsets things. Plus, the checkpoints are far and few between. Like I said, rent it first and see what you think, or borrow it from a friend. Call of Duty is a must, I knew it was going to be excellent, but not THAT good. Realistic is not the world. I'm just glad I wasn't born in the 1920's, because I'd hate to off been a solider in the 1940 if Call of Duty is anything to go by. The only other game I really want to play at the moment is Condemded. That's going to be a rental for me, because apparently it's only 5-6 hours long. Looks great though. Also, has anyone had problems getting hold of a 360 Scart lead!??? I can't get on anywhere! 33 -

XBOX 360, pros and cons (and about COD2)Unregistered - Capt CHAOS 12.03.2005 14:50 I got my 360 home just after 7am on Friday and between me and my son have played it about 20 hours.. It's a great machine, here are the bad points: 1) Controller, though it's good, bear in mind that you'll have to get used to using your middle fingers for fire.. It is a better layout but just be warned, It's been a while since I got rid of my PS2, had I kept it, I'd be more used to playing this setup. 2) You can't stick any ol' thing onto the HD, not good, sure it plays stuff from your USB device, but I doubt I'll use it much because really, I want to be able to copy stuff.. 3) COD2 - Yeah, yeah, it's a great game, almost fantastic infact, but as an online game?? It's about the worst I've seen, the lobby system etc.. it's just rubbish. HOWEVER, Don't miss this game, it's cool. 4) PDZ - Excellent game, good weaponry, plenty of action and things to do. The AI is o.k. My only gripe, it's not immediately visible to who is talking, I like to know who is talking clearly so I can mute the B*stards, and give them some bad feedback at the same time. 5) BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY STINKS - Yes, big time. I can't play the games I really wanted to: DOOM3, Counterstrike, Top Spin 2 (WFT- And it's a MS studio game), Cell Damage (my Daughter is disappointed). 6) Yeah, 5.1 dolby is good, but that's old hat.. I want support for 7.1 So.. Onto the good things : 1) The controller is awesome.. yes, I know what I said earlier, but really that's just down to me not being used to the new (aka PS2) layout. 2) The graphics are sweet. This powerhouse is going to keep me happy for atleast 4 years.. Yes, I reckon I'll be wanting an upgrade after that!! 3) PDZ is cool, full of action, online play is really cool.. But try finding a 32 player online match, no chance. 4) Plays HALO2 really well, better framerate (by the looks of it), Certainly alot clearer.. 5) PG3 - This game is fantastic, I was thinking that it won't be all that,.. mainly because I like RPGs and games with Guns. But when you hear some of the music pumping out.. sweet.. 6) The little remote control you get for playing DVDs etc.. It's cool, really, underated. 7) I plugged in my digital camera in and I've never seen my photos look so clear, crisp and the interface is cool. All I can say, is just get the damn thing and if you haven't go pre-order it now. Sure the PS3 is coming out, blah blah, but really at the moment it's just vapourware. You'll save atleast the price of the 360 by being kept in by all the really cool gameplay until the PS3 comes out.. at the worst case! 37 -

I get these black lines going up and down on the screen. ITs an original DVD, and i use a HD prjector that works fine as hell... Any1 have the same problem... I called two Gamestop's today, the one where I preordered from and another one nearby and they both said they didn't recieve a second shipment! and it was late saturday that I called. And the one Gamestop I called said they didn't recieve the second shipment because microsoft is doing a recall. Now I was told by microsoft that the second shipment is already on it's way, they also said it would be in stores by friday or over the weekend, the weekend is over and they don't ship on sundays. So I think microsoft is blowing smoke up everyones you know what. And my second complaint is the system scratching up discs, if it's that easy to scractch up a dics why don't microsoft put it in bold lettering that says DO NOT MOVE 360 WHILE ON WITH GAME INSIDE DISC TRAY because how many people really read the manual? put that warning on the box! where it can be seen, to save you all the heartache! 45 -

FreeMonk 12.04.2005 09:04 Wow! Some questions! Right - Why is the hard drive showing 13gig when it's 20gig!?? No one's 100% sure, not even the game websites like IGN and Gamestop. Maybe because some of the content (like movies and music) are on there. Remember, there's stuff already downloaded to the hard drive, plus there's updates that you download when you log into live. Recalls?? Nah, MS are not doing a recall. They are replacing any faulty boxes, but they are not doing a full recall. That's a load of crap. As for the shipments, maybe there was one, but not for gamestop. Right Wal-mart up, and see if they had one, because that who MS is in bed with at the moment, so to speak. Scratched Disks!? Why are you going to be moving your 360 around while the console is playing!? Are you nuts? If you do that, you deserve to have your disks scratched. I can see why people are mad if it's scratching disk if it sitting upright, but scratching disks when moving around your 360? Have you got 4 hands!? My 360 is running fine. I've played for around 15-20 hours since friday (once on a 9 hour spree), and all my disks are fine. No scratches, no overheating, nothing. The console works fine! 49 -

You'll love Call of Duty 2, and give Kameo a chance, it will grow on you. I've just played another hour of Perfect Dark Zero, and still not sure. It's ok in single player, but not excellent. Maybe I should try Multiplayer!? Also lozellis, if you've not got a HD-TV (which I haven't), try and reserve a scart cable before you get the console, because the cables you get with the console are crap for normal TV's, plus they are like platinum to get. Everywhere I've called or went to are sold out or never received any. One is going on Ebay for £58 at the moment. Anyway, as for the hard drive!? I don't have a clue. My console says that there's 13gb free, not 13gb total. If you look at the little bar below the '13gb free', there's a sizeable chunk that's been used. Not sure what on, but there's music on there, icons, save games etc etc. Also, as a PC builder, you should know that when you get a new hard-drive your not always guaranteed to get 120gb if you'be bought a 120gb hard-drive. It's an aprroximation. Who cares anyway, it's gonna take you ages to fill a 13gb hard drive. 53 -

FreeMonk 12.04.2005 13:39 I'm not totally sure if your LCD tv is HD Ready lozellis. Best thing to do is check the make and model on the net, and see what comes up. If it's a 46" LCD TV, chances are that it is, but if not, you should still be able to get a 480p picture, so that's a whole lot better than a normal CRT tv. I've got to wait until next year until my bonus before I can get my HD-TV. Hopefully, they'll go down in price as well because of all the HD Broadcasting being introduced, but I still can't believe there's no scart leads anywhere. It's totally stupid. Shortage of consoles, ok, but scart leads!?? Come on! Fifa '06? I haven't played it but from what I've read, it's a good game to play, typical Fifa gameplay with great graphics. They said that it looks realistic when you see the player's up close (replays and kick-off's), but when your actually playing, there's no real difference to the original X-Box version. Plus it's just the world teams, no clubs teams in there. If your thinking of buying it, buy the X-Box version for cheaper, and wait for a more detailed, definative version, OR wait for a Pro Evolution Soccer game. Pro Evo is the best afterall. Yeah, your probably right about PD0 being better in multiplayer. I'm going to give it a go sometime this week, but I want to play the single player a little more, so I can get use to the weapons a little more. From what rumors are going around, second shipment will be end of this week, beginning of next week, but Microsoft say a lot of things. Just keep ringing Dixons every few days and they'll keep you informed. 57 -

FreeMonk 12.04.2005 21:14 I wouldn't worry about a thing Oblivion. By the time the PS3 arrives, the X-Box will be producing graphics on par with the PS3 anyway! Also, Sony was bragging about Killzone being Real-Time, and then got found out. Plus games like MGS4 and Motorstorm look fantasic, and if they are in real-time, just imagine how long it's going to take to produce a game that looks like that. We'll see soon enough, and even if the PS3 is more powerful, which I personally think it will be, remember that it will be around a full 6-8 months from now before it hits the states, and 12 months before it hits Europe, so owning a X-box is a good idea because that's 8-12 months of next gen stuff you'll be playing until the PS3 arrives. 64 -

Rims and wheels cost hundreds of pounds/dollars, the remote cost around $15/£15, but you don't need it because you can still control everything from the wireless controller. Plus, most people have a DVD player anyway, so won't use the DVD features on the 360. Come on dude, if your basing your purchase of a 360 on whether your getting a remote free or not, why are you going to buy a PS3? That's not going to come with a remote, so are you going to boycott that as well!? In fairness, I can see your point, but I don't think MS are holding back to save money on a remote, especially when they are losing $130 each console, but the 360 is mainly for gaming, and you are going to be getting a great gaming machine, that will last you over until Sony release the PS3, which will probably be Dec '06 in the states, and around Mar '07 for the UK if Sony's past efforts are to go by. Also remember, that you are getting the hard drive, headset, componet cables all included in the premium pack, and if you bought them seperatly with the core, it would cost a whole lot more. Stop whining Jojo, buy the 360 when your pre-order comes in, and enjoy it, or you'll be kicking yourself come March/April when fantasic games like Ghost Recon 3, Oblivion and Gears of War arrive, and your not able to get a console. 68 -

Small ProblemUnregistered - Jonny 12.05.2005 04:48 Got my 360 on Friday 2nd from Ganestation, everything seems to work fine, but over the weekend it has frozen during gameplay, on and off line whilst playing PGR3, not sure whats going on. I have played about 20 hours so far on and off and its frozen 3 times more or less, and I've had to switch it on and off at the mains to get it to work again? Has anyone else had anything similar happen? PS Other than that PGR3 is awesome and the virtual garage of cars I have makes me wet my pants when I walk round and gaze at me CLK-GTR, Ferrari GT50 and my Lambo's, very nice ! 71 -

Freezing ProblemUnregistered - Jord 12.05.2005 07:54 Yes I've had the freezing problem....worked fine all day yesterday but today it's started to crash....it just stops mid-game and the screen is either blank or has lines. I've tried 3 games...PDZ and Call of Duty were the main problems, although Kameo seems to work fine. I've moved it away from like, everything now and it seems to be OK. For now..... I rang MS, and they told me to check to see if the date and time were set correct which I did, not sure what this has to do with it but checked it anyway. Then I noticed that the av cable which has the switch on for TV and HD was set to HD instead of TV, I switched it to TV as I only have a normal Plasma not HD and moved the unit away from everything else so it sits on its own and it seems ok for now but I will post again if it freezes in the next couple of days. MS said that it would be about a 5 day turn round from them sending you a box to them returning the console to you, so its not all bad, you have waited 6 months for the console another 5 days won't hurt to make sure its working ok, its a bit of a pain in the ass though. 76 -

These are a whole lot better than the cables that came with the 360 for the normal CRT tv's. I can't wait to get one, because I've resulted to playing Halo 2 on my old X-Box because the picture is sooooo grainy on the 360 with the crappy cable. Hope this helps! 77 -

#79 Brett Faulty 360Unregistered - Jonny 12.06.2005 03:44 Hi, mine has frozen during gameplay 5 times, so I rang MS and they are sending a courier round today Tuesday 6th Dec to pick my 360 up and I should have a new one by courier tommorow Wed 7th, only down side is that I have lost all progress on PGR3 which is a bit of a bummer unless you have a friend with a 360 so you can copy your progress to the hard drive and put it in their machine and copy it to their's and then back again to the new machine, but thats all as I have been waiting for 4 days for PDZ to come from Play.com, which hasn't arrived yet anyway. MS assured me of a speedy return of a brand new 360, so fingers crossed and I will post the result, to help others in the same position. 82 -

A freind of mine heard that 1 in 3 machines around the U.K have been having some sort of problem whether it be crashing or glitching etc and the reason there are no 360's for sale in the high street outlets is because MS has had to keep a stock back to cater for all the ones which are faulty and need to be returned, there is a major shortage anyway but MS has got plenty on its shelves if you find problems with yours, it might be while before you get anywhere with them though ! 87 -

I phone MS just now 12-25pm Sat 10th and they hve already sent me a new box back yesterday, but its stuck in my local DHL in Sheffield, and guess what its closed til Monday......aaarrrrrrrrrhhhhhhh Anyway, at least its coming back to me and its a brand new one.
