Some "new" screens of Gears of War surfaced on the web today. Or actually we are not so sure. Although most of you have probably never seen them before; we suspect that some of these screens are over a year old as they look very similar in style to some early Unreal Engine 3 tech demo pics. If you do a Google Image search for Unreal Engine 3, you you’ll see some early UE3 demo pics with GoW monsters in them. Either way I am sure you will enjoy seeing these "new" Gow screens.

I'm a bit perplexed as to why these screens are being published as "news" if the author can't verify if these are the actualy GOW screens. Shouldn't a good news website endeavor to do that rather that just say, "This might be news?" In any event, those graphics look amazing, regardless of what game/platform it is for. As for ps3 fan, is s/he being paid by Sony? Or just idiotically brainwashed himself? I will certainly buy a 360 when I'm able to get my hands on one. I would also like to get a PS3, but I don't know anything about it at the moment... There seem to be many fanboy/psychics out there who "know" that "their" system will be the best, yet don't know proper grammar or how to spell. 15 -

Vivicious 01.12.2006 17:34 Yea, these screens are at least a year old. I had my doubts until seeing the grassy screenshots, they're directly from the UE3 Tech Demo. The game looks alot more impressive now. I saw it in London not too long ago, and for those that haven't seen a recent video yet, check out the Zero Hour footage for example. It can be hard to notice the detail at times because of the shaky cam footage, but those "concept screens" look alot like ingame screens by now, the ingame cutscenes in between look exactly the same. And Fanboys should realise that MGS isn't a big franchise because of it's visuals. I'm sure it will have alot of graphical tricks that we didn't all notice in the presentation, but of course GoW graphics blow it out of the water at the moment. MGS fans should be commending it on gameplay or it's gritty graphical style (Which is why I think it doesn't look as impressive as it could), while GoW graphics have a definite sci-fi fantasy feel. The bats, 3d blood, and amount of detail in general amaze me alot more than anything else so far. 31 -

One thing that looks kind of stupid is the weapon you use, it's like some bullet-hose/shotgun mash-up(I think it's one weapon). I hope they think of adding a first-person view like Midway did in "The Suffering", I don't know why, but I don't like the third-person view they have that much. Any kind of deathmatch mode for xbox live seems like it wouldn't be fun either(that thought based on the view and weapons). I REALLY hope that this is a good game. 33 -

I also agree with #30, I think the graphics for the Playstation 3 look great, it's just that, how can I put this in words, Everything on MGS4 look like they've been paste together. On the Xbox 360 the environment blends with everything make it look more real, but with the Playstation 3, you can tell they built the environments piece by piece. Vivicious 01.13.2006 09:00 I've stood next to somebody playing this game (on a gigantic beamer, but he uses a little screen), and the game is not per se about innovation (Like my nr #1 expectation for 2006, Prey), but it def. IS about the gameplay as well. The firefights look intense, some great scripted events (without the scripted AI to back it up some of us have come to hate from games like H-L2) that keep you on your toes. I'd sum it up as an interactive movie experience, and def. not a shooter that you CAN even run through with guns blazing. This is a great thing for this game, because lots of times during other games (FEAR, Doom 3, etc.) you end up focusing more on running around killing everyone than the atmosphere and the game itself. Sure, FEAR had some nifty AI, but that got old pretty quick, and you can still strafe run through the game. The tactical positions these guys take up isn't anything groundbreaking AI wise, but due to the difficulty, we finally have a game where cover fire actually means something. I'm stoked. 51 -

This game looks sweet and people get the idea of photo realism as next gen cause your setting yourselves up for disappointment. PHOTO REALISM isn't the only thing NEXT GEN really. NEXT GEN is interactive environments, such as full destructable, larger game worlds, innovation in gameplay, added features that immerse you further into the game. If all we want games to look like the real places they depict example PGR 3. Then we will never have next gen. A good example of not needing photo realism is Crackdown. The premise of the game and what they have said they want to do with it sounds interesting. But as usual cannot make any comments on theoretical gameplay since i have not played the game or a demo of it. Although if it turns out to be everything that the developers want it to be I will purchase regardless if it is photo realistic. 63 -

He also said that they (I don't know who) asked them to do it and they turn it down, but they did say that a company in Europe was making the video for like 6 months. Now, don't get me wrong I like the playstation 3 and I think the games will look great, but this clearly shows that Sony's been all bs on their next-gen graphics. Sony has pulled another blinder over the PS3 fanboys eyes because they don't pay attention to the wording Sony uses. Sony claims they can achieve 120 FPS but not fill-rate (anti-Aliasing) limited and at what resolution? I can easily pull off 135 - 200+ Frames-per-second on my PC in a benchmark with anti-aliasing turned off but when I turn it on I get around 30 frames-per-second. The resolution also makes a difference which is the part Sony speaks under their breath & wants you to focus on the fact that the PS3 can achieve 120 frames-per-second. 92 -

I can't imagine going back to such an extinct dinosaur system. After truly owning an X360 hooked up to the internet and having a windows XP computer connected wirelessly to the X360 two stories down, accessing the HDD for my 2 gig's of MP3 music files played through my X360 that's hooked up to my surround sound and HDTV, not to mention the XLIVE community, friends list, voice chat, downloadable arcade games, downloadable game demos (20 second download), downloadable music videos, HD movies on my PC hard drive streaming through to the X360 , works as a DVR (or Tivo if your cable supplier offers it like Direct TV is compatible with Windows and X360), etc. etc. I just look back and say WOW! This is the part where you get PWNEDXtrm L1481L1TY 01.15.2006 17:29 I have not even begun to scratch the surface of the gamer in mind that MS thought about. The XLIVE gamertag has come along way. I really like how people can look up my gamer score and achievements on each game I have played for bragging rights and I can look up theirs. I can tell Xlive to hook me up in a game with people of the same skill level. I can look back at the past 20 people I played online with and send an invite with a voice message to my friends list if I liked playing with him/her. Then, they can choose to accept or decline and even tell XLIVE to never play with me again if they so choose or I can tell the system to never accept a message from a certain person again if they keep bugging me. I can go back and easily look up the past few player I recently played with and give anybody a reputation score review and say I liked playing with that person so Xlive will set me up to play with them again or I could tell Xlive that the person curses a lot and tell Xlive to never put me in a game with them again. While I am playing a game or watching a movie I get a quick notification on the screen that says (Zucas has just signed into XLIVE) if he is on my friends list. Any friend who signs in, XLIVE will notify you. With in that message I can see a picture of the XBOX ring of light. If the upper left light is on that means he has one controller hooked up with one player. if the upper left and upper right lights around the circle is lit I can see he has two players connected to his X360 etc. From there I can see what game Zucas is playing and I can tell Xlive to put me directly in the game session he is playing at that time. I can tell the System to show me as offline, or away or online for privacy. I can set up a personal voice chat with Zucas that nobody else can hear on a certain com of my choice and even talk to zucas while I'm watching a movie and he is playing Halo. I can tell the system to output the voice chat sound through the speaker, the headset or both. There is up to 5 different coms to set each friend on a different one. If anybody wants to voice chat with me the system will give me a notice saying someone want's to voice chat with you and you can except, put your headphone on, and chat away or you can simply decline the voice chat. If someone want me to join a game with them the system will notify me saying such and such wants you to join their game, do you accept or decline? You just click OK I accept then your in. Everything works flawlessly. I love playing Call of Duty 2 online with the voice chat because the other team cannot hear your own team’s voice chat. It's really cool because you can tell your team mates if you spotted an enemy, where the enemy is located at, or call out for help or tell your teammate, I have your back, taking out the sniper, or I have a visual on their flag take out the enemy in the northwest 2nd floor building and I'll grab it, cover me, roger that, clear the way I'm throwing a frag grenade, I took out the sniper it's clear, let's move out, etc. etc. All the while, your gamer score goes up, your reputation can go up, and you meet new friends. It's a blast! You just can't get this from Nintendo or Sony. Not like this! 105 -

The HDD in X360 is a cheap and slow HDD and M$ charge (rob) you $100 for it, with only 13gig available to the user. A segate rep at CES who his company makes HDD for MS, was amazed at how cheap M$ is with the HDD calling it cheap slow junk. The add-on HD-DVD will cost you around $200-$300 to watch high def movies, but wait what happens when the format fails? oh my what a disaster, you will have to buy all your films again for M$ blu-ray add-on drive, now isnt M$ clever he thinks of everything doesn't he? especialy $$$. 100BASE-T support for X360 its hardly future proof either, PS3 will have a 1000BASE-T ethernet adaptor, couple that with the Cell broadband engine, and you have a superfast internet connection for future faster internet speeds. PS3 has blu-tooth support something X360 doesn't, aswell as a range of input slots that X360 also doesnt have, PS3 isnt no console like X360, its a media centre, no need to have a PC, PS3 will support a version of the Linux operating system on the variouse sized HDD's, not a measly 13gig. Basicaly what I'm saying is, X360 is a rip-off $400 for console $200-$300 for add-on next gen video player or a standalone $1000 - $1800 Cheap small HDD only supports DVD-9 games (Dual layer DVD) Have to use PC for some of X360's potential X360 has 10 times slower ethernet Doesnt have all the slots or blu-tooth connection like PS3 PS3's estimated retal price $399-$499 X360's price after buying HD-DVD drive $600-$700 + $100 for each additional HDD when you fill your current one. Remember Hi-def is next gen paying for and downloading hi-def media will take up lots of space and require a fast connection, this is what Sony has in mind and is not so far in the future. My internet speed has increased to 4 times the speed I was on just this month, at no extra cost With all that said do you realy think Sony will skimp on an online service? when they clearly made PS3 an internet machine? The proof is in the pudding so to speak as we all know game developers are making statements that the Xbox is equivalent in power to the PS3. Not to mention both dev kits in their possession to directly experience the power of both systems. It’s absolutely absurd. Not to mention the graphically stunning beauty of DOA 4. Has anybody had a chance to see the new Gear of War screens? How come I'm playing Fightnight Round 3 demo (2 months before it's even released)on the X360 and it looks identicle to what Sony showed at E3? Hmmmmmm? Hmmmmmm. I do believe that Sony still controls the smoke screen and has a large base of baffled PS3 fan boys. When Sony comes out with the PS3, It’s not going to be hard or very expensive to add a 1 GIG Ethernet adapter as they are very cheap even for your average consumer. As for Bluetooth devices, all MS simply have to do is create a Bluetooth protocol software update for download to the 360. As you should know that Bluetooth devices hook up through a USB port access point, problem solved. Anyhow, I don’t see any innovation in game play or innovation in game design from Sony. All I’m seeing from Sony is a bunch of pre-rendered video demos (except for one game play demo & the X360 actually looked better on the same demo) an Sony jumping up & down screaming blu-ray. From what I've seen so far, it does looks like that Sony are trying to sell the Blu-Ray Technology rather than the PS3. Sony have been down the road before where they have lost out to a someone else (Betamax lost to VHS, Minidisk lost out to MP3's), and they have found a sure fire way of making Blu-Ray a success. They've learnt from the PS2 experience that if they add the Blu-Ray technology to the PS3 like they added the DVD player to the PS2, it will make Blu-Ray the standard, and therefore make more profit from stand-alone machines, Blu-Ray movies etc etc that the sell. Will this work, yeah, I guess so! Will the PS3 lose any of it's quality!? No, it won't. The problem might be the price. Somehow I can't see the PS3 selling at $399 or even $499. With Blu-Ray machines and HD-DVD machines going out at nearly $1500 at the CES event, somehow $500 doesn't seem likely. Now this is where Microsoft have been clever, because they've sold a machine without a HD-DVD drive, therfore keeping cost's down. They have stated that if they decided to sell a HD-DVD drive in the future, it won't be used for gaming. So that means that they are giving the public a choice to whether buy one or not, because believe it or not, not everyone in the world has a HD TV, and therefore won't gain the benifets of a HD-DVD drive. HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are basicly there for extra storage. DVD players can produce HD images, but are limited to how much they can store. With Sony they are saying, HAVE IT OR HAVE NOTHING AT ALL. Which is a shame, because it will cost more to buy games for the console, and will cost more to buy the console. Personally, I think Sony's console will be more powerful than the 360. I think it will sell well in Japan, but it all depends on the price once it hits the US and UK. It's not just the price of the console, but the price of the games as well. I think Microsoft has moved a long way since the days of the X-Box, and what a great powerful machine it is, but I think Sony might be worrying a little now, because with a Spring 2006 release date (2-3 months away!) and no new info at all on the PS3, it's fames, prices, it's looking a little worrying, expecially since Microsoft had running 360's with demo's running 6 months before release 120 -

Kojima actually shown people at E3 the MGS4 clip, and the paused it, zoomed in on certain area's not seen in the trailer, span the camera around, all in Real-Time. Now whether it was running on PS3 hardware or just a PC, no one knows, but that trailer was actually Real-time graphics. What I think you may be stating is that Sony have shown no IN-GAME FOOTAGE, in which case, they've shown hardly none. Some trailers like the Warhawk trailer shows what looks like in-game graphics as well as the racing buggy game with all he mud. This argument won't be settled until the next big Sony conference or maybe even TGS. So there's no point arguing, although I still agree that Sony are pushing the Blu-Ray feature onto people who won't need it or use it and unfortunatly will have to pay for a feature they won't use. PS3 is aiming more at online with PS3 and still keeping it a FREE service, Blu-ray is new, the processor has been built from the ground up and PS3 has got quite a few new titles coming its way, not just sequals. Sony are introducing a new camera a Hi-def IP camera, how it will be used online is yet to be known, Sony say you can broadcast your own shows, so who knows what online plans they have. PS2's online was pretty bleak, but still had more players on its servers than Xbox live did. PS2 was just a test bed for online, PS3 will improve on PS2's online, PS3 will be more like a media hub than a console. X360 is an old Xbox with fancier interface software and new console design, whats inside the console is old tiered parts, like I said its sticking with old DVD, its got a very small 20gig WTF! 20gig HDD that you only have access to 13gig of that space that cost's a whopping $100, jeez man you are getting raped up the A$$, X360 is cheap JUNK, with games that look like this gen, you are being blinded by a fancy interface, thats all X360 is, new software interface. $400 for another DVD player, 13gig of HDD space flashy software interface and the games dont look to hot just yet, it isnt worth the money, even Xbox sold more units at Christmas than X360, no one wants it and dont say its sold out, I could go out now and buy one, all stores near me have them, they're not even selling in Japan, they cant even give them away over their, they know its JUNK, nothing in the X360 is true Hi-Def, you are being A44 focked by billy bob, there is no helping you Xbots, M$ has you blinded with interface software, you cant see past that to realise the rest of the system is JUNK, I'm outta here, before I go, a word of advice, wait for the price to drop to $200 then it will be worth the $$$ 130 -

Sony only had a couple of games that were online and most of them Microsoft already had. I heard the service to get online with the Playstation 2 cost a bundle (I'm not saying that's true it's what I heard). You can't just say that the Xbox 360 is weak and it's going to be beat easy this time around like the first Xbox. Not even two months ago, no one had even played a next gen videogame. Alot of gamers were either playing with the Xbox, GameCube or the PS2. I myself, was enjoying my games on the Xbox platform and spending long hours on Xbox Live. There are alot of Xbox Live subscribers out there, but sometimes it's hard to believe how many gamers out there have no idea how revolutionary the experience still is. It's even more disturbing when I know that there are 90+ million PS2s out there and most of the people who own them, either don't know what Xbox Live is or never even played an online gaming session. I laugh at how so many gamers became connossueirs of hardware specifications over night. People are so worried about whether their system of choice is inferior or superior to the other. Developers have only had final hardware in their hands for several months. That means that any games that we play within the year were created on inferior hardware or a high end Pc. Don't be naive. Stop making judgement on games that don't live up to your graphical expectations. It's still early. Blame it on the developers for underestimating the hardware capabilities of the Xbox360 and PS3. Microsoft and I'm sure Sony also, have exceeded the developers'expectations for what is graphically feasible with the new hardware. If we were waiting for a game that truely utilizes the hardware, we would still be waiting right now with an Xbox360 console and no games to play on it. I'll leave you all with something to think about. Suppose two competing companies built an evolutionary flying device that must reach a destination point in the shortest time possible to determine which is the superior. Both devices are considered to be very powerful. They have been built using different components but yet they have proved to be equal in speed. The only differences between the two is that one device made a smoother and easier flight to the destination point and cost less to manufacture than the other device. If you were an engineer which device would be the choice for mass market? My point is, online gaming will decide the console wars and that is where the future of next gen gaming lies. 141 -

I cant believe it! Fact Sony came out with a harddrive and promised demo's, streaming media, photo software and a hand full of others. And delivered An expensive memory card thanks sony! Sony promised an online community with ps2! Delivered a crappy service and forced ps owners to buy the new slim version in order to play online fact! Fact Sony promised ps2 graphics and hot original games and more enjoyable experience! Delivered A high priced gamegear with weak battery life and ports of games! Fact ps underground was originally free and as it became popular forced people to pay for it! So a survey now shows their not ready! Do I believe the cell or blu ray is going to blow the competition away! no way! The thing I dont understand is why is Sony using expirimental technology to deliver next gen gaming? So true So trueUnregistered - Lame Dude 01.21.2006 04:09 So true that sony wants you to pay extra just so your friends can play when they come over your house with the multicrap i mean mutlitap for both ps1/ps2 when both the N64 & DC had the concept long before either of the ps1/ps2 came out so they could of made that an option but they didn't, then they said that you couldn't use the ps1 controller with the ps2 boy was they wrong lets not forget the memCard and last but not forgoten (this is very important so pay attention) each system that sony drops within a year or two they redesign it making it more compact adding more features to entice you to buy the new and improve version so if i was a ps3 fan i would just wait until 2008 when they (SONY) remix the ps3 to V2.0, 2.60 or what ever version that way you will be ahead of the game :) 155 -

I love these forums.omegaheat 01.21.2006 12:39 We can't blame the Sony fanboys for their enthusiam of the PS3. We are all guilty of standing behind our favored console as if it's part of a religion. We have created a war between Sony and Microsoft with our loyalty and support. Sony destroyed the Sega Dreamcast ( a great machine, by the way) with false promises that they never lived up to. In fact, I still argue that the Dreamcast had much cleaner graphics than the PS2 and because of its untimely death, we never got to see the potential of the machine. If Microsoft didn't craft the Xbox, I have probably become a casual gamer. But because of Microsoft, I am still a die hard gamer to this day. They brought back innovation and the hope that videogames will continue to be a leisure activity that can be enjoyed alone or with friends. So I don't even have to talk about how revolutionary Xbox Live continues to be. Competition is good. Bring it on. The bigger the fight; the bigger the games. We are the winners. Maybe some of us won't admit it, but I am positive that 80% Xbox/Xbox360 owners are refugees from the Sega camp. I'm from the old school. I still have about 300 games in perfect emulations of the Sega Master System and Sega Genesis. There are no words to describe the nostalgia. 158 -

I must say it brings me more enjoyment then any other system to date. it's the greatest fun iv'e had in a long time....but I also want to thank Sega, for all the good times back in the day! 160 -

Did you know the root of all wars are fought due to religion? Don't go stinking up the forums with prejudice remarks about a religious/ spiritual belief. Although I don't think there should even be religious denominations, I do admire anyone who believes in God. The word religion does not necessarily adhere to spiritual beliefs. It is a cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion. So let's stick with the point that I was trying to make. We are loyal fans of Microsoft's consoles and there are others who are fans of Sony's console whether it's for a cause or just self devotion. It doesn't matter. Their has been so many child molesters who have got away with what they have done, simply because their wasn't 2 witnesses to report the crime to the elders, not only that, most of them get let off anyway, simply because they tell the elders they are sorry for what they have done and the people reporting the insident to the elders have to forgive, that is their belief's. It discusts me how these people can get away with such crimes. Anyway I'll leave it at that, this IS a gameing forum and I shouldn't have brought this here. 166 -
