Rumors have been all over the web about TEAM ICE and their supposed mod chip solution for the Xbox 360 console. After some digging however, it appears that not only are they far off from a solution but not a real team at all. Composed entirely of Evan O'Keefe (aka SkyD) it seems a rather elaborate net of lies has been put in place with intentions ranging from misleading large scale mod chip distributers to minor scamming on Ebay.

Unregistered - lil' gringo 01.18.2006 08:51 To bad you don't meet the age criteria then Ken Katuragi, and im no ps fanboy but even I know his name is Ken KUTAragi but who cares since your probably no ps fanboy yourself but merely someone who'll do anything for some attention. And it obviously worked... A little on topic, I had a feeling this whole thing was a scam from the beginning Unregistered - XBOXFAN 01.18.2006 09:37 I CLICK ON THAT LINK AND THERE'S NO INFO. I HATE WHEN PEOPLE PUT BOGUS NEWS. AND FOR THE RECORD, THE XBOX 360 IS A B*TCH TO MOD, DO A LITTLE RESEARCH BEFORE POSTING THIS RIDICULOUS COMMENTS, SONYBOY Unregistered - HeMan 01.18.2006 09:47 Why would it matter if the the 360 was hard to hack or not? A ps fanboy would like to see it hacked I would think, cutting microsofts profits as game sells would slump. They don't make money off the hardware. Have a nice cup of STFU. Unregistered - Ken Katuragi 01.18.2006 10:12 To the rocket scientist pointing towards some name spelling. As I said sometime ago my name is actually Ken Katuragi and sorry to confuse my fellow X-box gamers I am by no means a PS Fanboy simply because their on-line services are crap. I was just saying to the poor Hacking bloke starting something without being able to put the Money where his mouth was. Unregistered - asdf 01.18.2006 10:54 so since we know who he is, can we get around to throwing him in jail now? Unregistered - Ken Katuragi 01.18.2006 11:38 Put him in jail? he is a hero for trying to hack the 360! Unregistered - W T F 01.18.2006 12:37 If modding is illegal why don't they arrest the people that distribute it.!!!! Unregistered - bluemangroup 01.18.2006 12:59 commenter 8: Re-read the story, he's not a hero for trying to hack the 360... He actually didn't try, he pretended to so he could try to scam people out of their money. The real heroes (if we're calling hackers heroes) are the teams over at xbox-scene etc. Teams that rea ACTUALLY working on something, not making fake videos so people will pre-order a nonexistant product 0ldb0y 01.18.2006 14:20 Modding is not illegal. Scamming people of their money is. Unregistered - . 01.18.2006 14:52 Really it's not? what are mods use for? downloading free games and messing with the games, i think it is pretty illegal. Unregistered - john deer 01.18.2006 15:05 guns can be used to kill people, but theyre legal. get the idea? there is a good use for the chips, but can be used negatively too omegaheat 01.18.2006 15:54 I agree. This has puzzled me for the longest time. Modding and piracy are the same. I can't understand why anyone would advertise an illegal business. Modders have been fined before and now would be no different. Modding ruins it for all of us. I find it really stupid when I read the comments of gamers cheering for the modchip manufacturers. omegaheat 01.18.2006 15:59 I won't bash your opinion. But, if you want to support your argument; what's the good use of modding? omegaheat 01.18.2006 16:42 Does it really get any better than this? These Fight Night Round 3 shot is definetly gets a next gen graphic approval. http://www.ztgamedomain.com/view.php?rid=1316 Unregistered - :-) 01.18.2006 16:59 modding is ILLIGAL!!! is attaching something to the system that is not supposed to be there, something that is not supported by MSFT. It's like downloading free movie from the internet IT's ILLIGAL AND WRONG! It's only a matter of time before MSFT decide to sue one of this modders and then the point will get across. PAUL CERULA 01.18.2006 17:07 Nintendo's last ditch console, I mean REVOLUTION, ships before Thanksgiving. Can you guys even imagine how ackward and slow your actions on the screen will be fumbling with a remote and knum chuck FreeMonk 01.18.2006 22:41 Well, from what I can gather, it totally legal to produce and distribute the chip without any code or bios on it, because it's basicly a blank chip. BUT, it is illegal for someone to install and flash the chip with a bios. Normally, people do this themselves, and friends do it for other friends. The meaning being that MS isn't going to be sueing everyone that has a mod chip. There would be too many. As for suing the mod-chip manufactures, well from a legal position, they can't because they are not selling any copyrighted code, the are selling a blank chip with wires that could fit into anything. Now, the way Sony went about it was to stop websites, and shops SELLING and INSTALLING the chips, but other than that, they couldn't do much more. Modding is good and bad. It's good when you can run homebrew applications on (which most of the time are illegal anyway Emulators and Roms etc), but bad in the sense that it ruins the gaming industry and introduces modders that ruin the live! experience that we spend our hard earned money on. It will get chipped, count on it. They said that the Gamecube couldn't be chipped because of the size of the disk and the disk type, but they came out with a chip that would play back ups from a Mini-DVD. It's gonna take a while, MS have stuffed so much security crap in there, that it will take a lot longer than normal, plus the first batch will probably have 50 wires to solder and only boot with swap disk techniques. It's a shame, but the market is out there for them, and at the end of the day, it's easy money for the distributors and sellers. Probably costs a few dollars to make the chip, and they could sell them t $100 or higher and people would pay for them. Easy money. Dirty money! Bad people! Unregistered - 01.19.2006 07:35 You see this guy's room? It's crap. What does he do with all the money he scams people? He should at least upgrade from the homeless skater under a bridge look. Dress casual is the minimum if you want to get into the business world, through lies or modchips. Add Comment |
