Microsoft Game Studios general manager Shane Kim has been talking to Next Generation about Halo 3, the second wave of Xbox 360 games and lessons learned from the recent platform launch.[Next Generation: Let's talk about Halo 3. Where are we up to?
Shane Kim: I call it The Mythical Halo 3 - we haven't announced any such game yet! Obviously the Halo franchise is very important to us. When you have Bill Gates being quoted fairly constantly, talking about a game, you know it's important to the company. But his recent comments reflect the position accurately. Which is that, if there were a Halo 3 we would be careful about how we announce and introduce it.
It's exactly the same way we talked about Halo 2, where people wanted it a year after Halo. That would not have accomplished anything.
Is it coming out this year?
It depends. If it's the game that everyone is expecting then, yes. For us it's about making a proper impact on the platform. It has to be something with huge significance, so we won't be rushed.
We don't want all the hype and speculation to overshadow some of the great titles that do have coming this holiday and thereafter. Gears of War has an incredible level of anticipation. I think it has more anticipation than Halo did before Halo came out.
If you remember the E3 before the launch [of Xbox] a lot of people were not sure that Halo would be so great. We learned a lot of lessons at that E3. We chose not to show a lot of titles at this past E3. For people in the industry, their first assessment of a title is based on the visual impact.]

It is a good thing to have a new windows wich i am sure everybody will have at some point of time in the near future but to try to make people buy a new OS for a game that they might want on a PC wich is in console right away...that's beyond me...if the guy above had any say in the above decision by Bungie and M$ he is a bigger fool than me cause i ain't gonna buy vista to play Halo 2 for pc...maybe an xbox360 but not a whole godamn os and pc for a game that is only 50$ ...what brand of wacky tabaco are the suits at M$ smoking i may want some to smoke on weekends..... 3 -

Unregistered - asdf 02.21.2006 13:36 I love Halo 2, but I was disappointed in the single player, which if anything, was less exciting than that in Halo. I think the big improvement really was the Live play: I got Halo 2 used, played a couple of levels, then put it away for months. Then, when I got Live with my 360, I popped in Halo 2, and I suddenly understood what all the fuss was about. It's still the best online multiplayer game, and it's why I won't bother buying Perfect Dark: I beat the single player in a day, and the online just doesn't match up to Halo 2. IMHO, Halo 3 is going to have to be a MUCH bigger improvement over 2 than 2 was over 1 in order to justify the hype. 9 -

It will either come out with the ps3 release which doesnt seem to be this year with all the problems there having or for the xmas holiday's around november which will be the date of the Revolution release. Count on it, we'll have it for xmas bet ya!!! Quit all the crying about Halo 2 on the windows vista system, if ya have an xbox or xbox 360 which you should your already playing it the best way it can be played. If ya dont have an Xbox then instead of spending 100+ dollars on an upgrade for vista just buy a used xbox and play Halo 2 if that's such a problem. H2 on the pc isnt a big deal since its been out for so long on the X, so dont sweat it ok? Besides the XBOX 360 is what it's all about this year! Hey A Question: resident evil 5 is basically done for the 360, the later release date was because they wanted to do a multiplatform release including the non existent ps3 so w/o it's possible release this year I wonder if they'll go ahead now and do a spring release as originally planned before the fony sony hype began. FreeMonk 02.21.2006 22:54 Halo 3 will be out 2007 when the movie is released. I bet my ballsacks that it will happen. A same week release of both the Halo movie and Halo 3. It's not going to be out this year. We'll see some sort of trailer at this years E3, and then towards the end of the year at the Tokyo game show we'll see actual gameplay before it's released in Jan/Feb 2007 with the movie. It makes perfect sence. PLUS, around the same time the PS3 will be about time to launch in the US, so that would make a perfect time to attack Sony as well, because somehow I can't see the PS3 coming out before Christmas in the states (everything too quiet on the PS3 front with just a month and a half before the expected Japan release slot!) Halo 3 will be excellent. Normally, games that have a fantasic 1st part, and then a crappy second part normally knock the ball straight out of the park on the third park, because they know where they went wrong with the sequal. I think Halo 3 will be something special. It's the biggest thing around in gaming at the moment. It's got to be something when PS3 fanboys keep getting ther knickers in a twist everytime Halo is mentioned. 15 -

And if they are such big fans, they will drop the 150 if they have not already to get a system to play Halo 2 on....which "Halo fans" would have gotten their hands on a long time ago. 16 -
Unregistered - bobvilla 02.22.2006 13:35 the fact of the matter is that if you only have a pc like id do then halo 2 cannot be played...microsoft announced halo 2 for vista only....therefore no matter what you have to either buy A: the original xbox ( wich does not make sense spending money on now) B: the xbox 360 ( wich is at least 500$ + for me here) C:wait and get vista wich will cost probaly close to 300$ + 50$ for the game without even knowing if my pc is able to push the new os properly while playing the game and that is for one game only... So what choices does microsoft leave me if i really want to play the game... Don't you see that it is all a gimmick to make you buy expensive microsoft product in the near future... i am not impressed and it is an underhanded way to deal with fans... i really want an xbox360 and i am gonna get one soon but the way microsoft is doing business is crass!!! They think that because they are so big that people will fall for OH well i guess we don't have too much choice we have to go with microsoft... i guess they forget that some time ago companies like atari and sega were major players in the video game world and look at them now...now that is a lesson... you don't listen to you customers and you try to keep shoving your company's thing in their mouth well after a while the customer will get sick and tired of it and just go on to something else.... 17 -

dont hold your breathUnregistered - joe 02.22.2006 23:16 dont hold your breath for h3 to come out this year. it will come out when halo the movie comes out. they did the same thing for fantastic 4. all you ever saw for like 6 months was fantastic 4 hype. commercials for the movie, happy meal toys, ringtones, figurines etc... and oh yeah, a video game. beleive me, we will all know when h3 is coming out, because we will be so sick of the warthog happy meal toys, and the movie trailers, and everything else they can think of. they are gonna let the movie be the biggest game trailer ever. think back of every similar instance in the past. spiderman? fantastic 4? even back in the 90's for batman. we will be sick of masterchief, and all that we love about halo, before the disk ever hits the tray. you might as well find other titles to tide you over, or just keep working on the super jumps. I'm not a huge fan of Halo or Halo2 but it's obviously the most popular game on the xbox and looks to continue the trend with the xbox 360. They probably started the game(Halo3) back when they started Halo2. Even if they don't call it Halo3, there will definately be a sequel to Halo2. MS would be very wise to release the next Halo to coincide with the release of the PS3 if they can. 22 -
Unregistered - joe 02.24.2006 09:01 to # 10 why in the hell does halo 2 need vista???!!! unreal tournament 2007 is not vista exclusive far as i know and the graphics willbe better than halo 2....rainbow six lockown works with xp again most up to date graphic game....so why do you believe that halo 2 for pc needs vista since it was created under older version of xbox wich apprently works with older windows 2000 kernels...a lot of people are saying that halo 2 for pc does not need visat to work..maybe halo 3 down the road...but not halo 2...trying to defend microsoft on this shows that you are a gullible sheep and ready to swallow anything they say or puts out because they says it should be that way and nothing else....well i have personnally worked for a company like that and i was not to proud of it!!!! it is a farce and microsoft his shooting itself in the foot with this one and i hope they fail miserably if that is their plan.... i have nothing against vista but the timing and the way they do this is despicable!!!!
