Oblivion Killer on the Way?

An RPG game is in the works for the PC and Xbox 360 called ”Two Worlds” that will from today easily become one of the most anticipated titles for the Xbox 360. The official site just opened today and from the info and media available on the site I will say that this is possibly the best looking RPG I have seen to date.

First I like to apologise to the guys at Topware Interactive and Bethesda for my shamefully tabloid headline, because the matter of fact is that “Two-Worlds” and “Oblivion” are not really going to compete against each other. Oblivion is coming out later this month, while Two Worlds is still early in development. We can only thank Bethesda for raising the bar for these type of RPGs, so that developers like Topware Interactive, the guys currently developing ”Two Worlds”, will be motivated to go the extra mile, which they obviously have if what I saw on their website today is anything to go by.

According to Topware Interactive, “Two Worlds” combines the extremely dynamic and sophisticated combat system with the meaning and freedom of exploration exceeding the accomplishments of other games of the genre. Their goal is to deliver a superior Role Playing Game to the PC and Xbox 360 market where players have a real chance to shape the game world with their actions - to an extent that has yet to seen in other productions. The game will feature a strong, non-linear storyline, mind blowing graphics, and stunning combat sequences. Can you feel the hype? However, these guys do seem to have good reason to lay it on thick, and until they are proven wrong, I will shamelessly believe every word they say.

The game claims to offers a unique opportunity to influence the game world - unseen, to this scale, in other Role Playing games. Freedom of choice (like freedom to join or betray various organizations) and the importance of every decision are the core mechanisms to evoke the sense of meaningful play.

Depending on the way that a problem is solved, the player gains or loses their reputation in certain organizations, various options are being closed or opened, quests are offered and new locations are unlocked. For example, a player must decide whether to help a city hold off the invasion of orcs or to secretly open the gates and let the invaders in. The latter decision will result in an onslaught and the take over of the city by the barbaric hordes. The next time the player visits this location, it will be populated and managed by orcs, unless the human army arrives and tries to liberate the city. The world lives its own life, but the player has the power to change it. The challenge lies in finding the right "strings" and skilfully "pulling" them and complete quests and will also be rewarded by different factions accordingly for the results of their actions.

To see what Topware Interactive means by mind-blowing visuals I suggest you take a look at these undoctored screens

They also offer something they have called Moveshots on their site, to give a better impression of how the game will look in-game. A moveshot involves a large number of screenshots in quick succession. 50 to 500 pictures are taken “live” out of the game and combined into a short movie with 25 pictures per second. In contrast to trailers, no post processing or blendes are used. Thereby, the gamer gets a realistic impression of the in-game graphics.

Click here to check out the Moveshots

Key Features

- Offering a freedom of choice unseen in other Role Playing Games. The world literally comes to life as it immediately reacts to the player's actions and changes accordingly -offering new and exciting challenges.

- Strong, non-linear storyline. Players can shape their own story by choosing the path of conducting the main conflict and resolving meaningful side-quests.

- Spectacular and dynamically choreographed fights. The combat system combines intuitive steering, tactical challenges and movie-like visual experiences.

- Free and unlimited character development. Players can experiment with different careers and even reverse their former choices with the help of "career changers".

- Unique magic system. The Players are allowed to assemble their own magic spells.

- Animals to be ridden on. Players can travel and fight on various animals from horses to tamed lizards and beasts.

- A choice of traps and snares are at the Player's disposal making the gameplay both rich and flexible.

- Huge variety of items to be found. Randomly generated pieces of equipment, thematic sets and combined items offer the space to experiment and satisfy the need to collect.

- Wide range of beautifully rendered terrains: from high mountains to seashores and deep caves with all of the locations featuring ultra sharp texturing and stunning design.

- Hyper-realistic tree physics and sophisticated weather system make the world come to life as has never been seen before.

- Advanced Artificial Intelligence that manages group behaviour of large virtual communities.

- Up to 8 players in the multiplayer mode.

- Symphonic music to make the experience more emotional and memorable.

- Extensive usage of Pixel Shader 2.0 and 3.0, HDR, multiple materials and unique shadow engine to ensure the best visuals possible.

- Support of Multi CPUs and Multicore CPUs, SLI and CrossFire Technology

“Two Worlds” is still early in development so the developers should have plenty of time to further improve the visuals, not that they really need to in my opinion, but they are still probably working with improving the game engine. If the game will be able to compare to Oblivion as a whole is yet to be seen, but I wish the guys at Topware Interactive the best of luck and I am really looking forward to follow the development of “Two Worlds”.

For more information about this very promising RPG I suggest you visit the official website at http://www.2-worlds.com

Yah I think another Wow would be appropriate... WOW!! OK so now I believe the Xbox 360 can't be held accountable for lack of great titles. GRAW, COD2, Halo 3, Oblivion, Two Worlds, Fightnight Round 3, Battlefield 2, F.E.A.R, Ninja Gaiden 2, Gears of War, KOTOR (?), and of course Table Tennis (joking), etc etc. The list of AAA titles keeps getting bigger and better. Hell yes!

ha, ha, stop jumping through hoops, after the past few months I can't believe you all are believing this so easily, sure it'd be great, but Oblivion could have looked like this had Bethesda optimized the 360 version and not have been uber PC geeks.

12 - talk about alot of games
Unregistered - ee 03.03.2006 17:34
This is a bit overwhelming! Game after game after game and on top of that quality games! The 360 is turning into the most promising console ever and this game just adds to the plan! I wonder how many other games they will annouce at e3 because im very excited!

13 - WOW

WOW......Dudes this game should rock if they stick to what they say......LOL wait there not Sony so it should be great. And yet again WOW a multi-player mode with 8 people. Not much but still going to be great since us console gamers don’t have MMOs. Cant wait but till then I going to play Oblivion and love every minute. Wait and the red armor looks bad a$$ wish I had it......LOL

Unregistered - NuclearTonic 03.03.2006 17:52
I really hate to say this, but oblivions graphics look MUCH more realistic. I mean, these graphics look like a game. Oblivion looks like a real world. There is NOT really any comparison. The lighting in this game even looks "fake" or forced in some way. It's hard to explain, but you can TELL that this is a game, while oblivion looks amazing.

To #8,
Good point! The 360 is getting lots of high caliber games, and you even forgot to add BioShock to the list!

Im impressed with this game, and it's still in early production so let's not start comparing the game to Oblivion yet. But for sure, they will both be awesome!

Xtrm L1481L1TY 03.03.2006 18:30
I have to admit after watching the Moveshots, I don't find the look of it all that impressive anymore. However, they are still in early development and besides, the 1st person and 3rd person mode is what attracts me to Oblivion and many other non-RPG fans willing to give the RPG another chance. Lets just prey it's not turned based.

Looks good. Oh more barrels to bust open. Blah. Didn't any one think to bust them open Before I come walking along? I hope the grass moves when you walk through it. I've been playing FFXI alot and I hate that the grass doesn't move. As for all the options it's boosting, I'll wait and see how that turns out. I guess I'm jaded after Fable didn't deliver all it promised. It was a great game but you know. Can't wait to see where this game goes though. I'll have an eye out for it. FOR SURE!

I wouldn't call this the oblivion Killer, that's only for competiton against the RPGs on the PS3 and Revolution. I say bring it on !!! Sony and Nintendo!!! We have many more RPGs on the way like, Fable 2, Jade Empire 2, Star Wars: Knights of the old Republic 3, Mass Effect, Oblivion,( which is coming out 3-20-06!!) and many more. This is the year of the Xbox360, which is going to mostly have the advantage, because the PS3 will mostly come out in 2007. If you guys look at the PS3today.com site, notice that most of their news is nothing but hype!!! At one point they were talking about the PS3 Hub,( a mimic to Xbox live)then they got sad news saying PS3 is delayed until 2007, and now what's next PS3 arcade. Pure hype!!!!! Nintendo maybe the first to have a joystick, but Xbox started a unified Online, which is bigger than that. Sony and Nintendo will mostly follow that path. XBOX FANS DON'T FORGET THAT OUR SYSTEM IS THE ORIGINATOR OF THAT UNIFIED ONLINE!!!!!

25 - 14 NO!

Ha I love how after almost two years (maybe more) of drooling over oblivion everyone is freaking out about this game. O my, they have great AI! It's non linear! Character cusomization? where have I heard all these things? It may be Oblivion but I'm not sure. Two worlds is not as much an oblivion killer as it is an oblivion rip off... That's just me talking though.

41 - Oblivion killer... maybe.
Unregistered - Moderator 03.05.2006 01:12
Ahhh. Another day to come online and see yet more "what if" topics. While im not saying this is wrong, for this is a rumour/fact website, it's just the fact that this game is still in early devolopment which the author stated. The potential for a great, mind blowing, category king RPG will always be impossible to achieve. There are already several main differnt reasons why this game is not even simialr to Oblivion. IMO the game is following what all early devolopment titles go through. The "what shall be cut and what shall stay" phase. I can almost be sure that half the stuff on that list up there will either be reduced in "next gen" or be completely taken out.

If I remember correctly the possiblility for many of the things listed above were subject to go into Oblivion. But as we all can see now some things just weren't meant to be. Where's my Nine Divines guild and soft shadowing? *cries loudly*

Basicly it all boils down to this: Oblivion... is not out. So how a game most of us havn't even been able to play yet can be measured to somthing that is still on the drawing boards is confusing to me.

It's important for me to let yall know this is not a post bashing Dustys journal thingy. It's a great subject and for once it brings along some controversy. Perhaps if we can continue to behave correctly we(the visitors and members) to this website will be granted the chance to participate in more of these topics.

As the guys above stated... "My 2 cents."

If you say these gfx look 486ish... <Choose one or a combination> 1) Have no idea what you are looking at 2) Never played a 486 system... Since they were the very very first 3dfx, and voodoo card would NEVER run 1/10th of that is happening on screen here 3) Just want to talk **** and get something started. My opinion is.. Elder Scrolls, has an established legacy of content, imersion, playability and lastly graphics. I would play them even if the graphics are not as good as they are because under the grossy covering there is a deep immersion in the world of the game that makes it a truely great game. Can two worlds raise to this level? Maybe... Will it happen on the first time.. It could. The graphics are good now in the screen and movies on the site. They need a little tweaking and I am sure they will be. How deep the world goes and the fact i think it said "multiplayer" will be something Oblivion doesnt have... getting together with 4 friends thru XBL to coop some hard quests with their toons would be bad ass and you wont do that with Oblivion. Fanbois be damned... Morrowind was a good game... Oblivion will be a good one also. Lets wait and see what happens with Two Worlds before you go condemning it for a new seconds of browsing a website.

46 - Little of topic
RavenSlayer 117 03.05.2006 19:41
Don’t mean to get off topic because this game looks great. But what would you guys rather have great graphics or great game play. Only asking because I want to be a game designer. And I think I know the answer to most of y’all but still. Thx

47 -
JsonHenry 03.06.2006 08:15
When I watched that video with the beast thing in it and the trees swaying, all I could think of was when you set the graphics really high in Unreal Tournament 2004 and the game says -

HOLY SH!T!!

Let me say that again - HOLY SH!T!!

You have to aim for total immersion. The gameplay has to be good. The graphics have to be at least current gen to sell, but doesn't have to be industry leading either.

The art direction is way better in Oblivion. These models look dopey and unrealistic. I would put my money on Oblivian to be a better game since noone has completed either.

Don't forget this game is "early in development", whereas Oblivion is done.

51 - No such thing as an Oblivion killer

For starters I am so sick of people making articles like Better than Halo, Look out GTA and now Oblivion killer on the way(you say it cause u know they can’t be beaten). The game sounds alright but nothing that special, I have read it all before revolutionary, Advanced AI and so on. But yes we need to give it some time to develop, so let’s actually go play oblivion fist (cause how can u rate it when it’s not released yet) and then come back to this discussion.

52 - Not even close. Pah!
Unregistered - Soursha 03.08.2006 09:38
There's an interview with the developers of Two Worlds over at RPG Vault. This game is going to suck, and royally. It's nothing like Oblivion, in any aspect of gameplay whatsoever. Two worlds is a Diablo clone with HDR lighting, and nothing more. If you enjoy Diablo, that's fine by me, but there's nobody who can even begin to say that it's in any way similar to the Elder Scrolls series.

The writer of that article needs to do a LOT more reading before submitting daft claims to a site.

53 - yer no
