Word is out on the street that a flaw in the Xbox 360 DVD firmware may allow a hacker to install his own custom firmware in there unchecked, and as such gain full control of what the DVD will or will not accept. In practice, this would mean that the drive could gain the capability to boot backups of original game DVD’s by flashing a self-built firmware in there which ignores the mandatory disc signing.

Unlike movies were the company makes one dvd to play on all players. Game makers make games to play on specific systems. So if this is true then the best games could be hacked but that would cause the game makers to think twice about making another game for the system. They are going to loose out on to much money. How do we know that we didn't contribute to the death of the dreamcast. That system was just as good as the PS2 but it was so easy to hack every single game that was made for it like. Crazy Taxi, Power Stone 1&2, Panzer dragoon and so much more. All those games was fantastic but easy to hack. After awhile companies didn't want to make games for the dreamcast. Well the same here and I didn't buy a $400 system just for hacking. Just because something could be done doesn't mean we should do it. It could kill the life span of this system 4 -

This could be quite interesting to see whether Sony recognizes this aspect of the industry in order to improve their firmware in their hardware specs. 6 -

DVD drive fireware isn't a major thing anyway for the average person who wants to cheat in a game. This "hack" if true is just a "HAHA, I thought of what you didn't MS so who is the smart one now". 8 -

Hackers though are only hacking for fun to hack a code, not to distribute the hack or firmware so the whole world can play backups. They don't support everyone playing back-ups that would only be positive voor people that play illegal copies of games, which they are not interested in for a couple of reasons: 1. They only want to hack, just for the kick they can hack something that people/producer say is not hackable (as MS said); 2. For them the hack is heaven, not to play back-ups; 3. They don't want to let other people do illegal stuff with the thing they made, they don't have one reason to do so (they don't want to have money for it, because they would be sued by MS); 4. If TS would release it, even if he would not get paid for it, MS would sue that guy till his death. I think no-one would like that. And for the rest, the FW hack is done quit easely, so other hackers will repeat the trick and bring it out somewhere, somehow, expect it in a month maximum as far as insiders are giving global information. It's true, it's not only TS saying this is working, even though he also initiated the FW DVD hack for the old xbox which is proven working, there are lots of hackers that are working the same path (the new DVD of the 360 doesn't differ so much in the programming) an installer from windows/PC with special connector to 360 DVD will be available not to long from now 10 -
