Microsoft staffer, wishing to remain anonymous, has revealed that MAME and games from SEGA are heading to Xbox Live Arcade. Speaking to SPOnG, a Microsoft source close to the Xbox Live Arcade project has spilled the beans on what Microsoft has up its sleeve for the service. - "XBLA has seen some pretty serious deal-making in this first quarter - it's been a real priority," explained the source. "The deal-making has been a no-brainer for everyone we've spoken to and, aside from a few licensing issues with existing products, XBLA is going to smash Nintendo's Virtual Console to pieces." - So how is Xbox Live Arcade going to "smash Nintendo's Virtual Console to pieces"? Well it appears that Microsoft has plenty of ammunition in the shape of the massively popular emulator MAME.

AND might I add that "8-bit sega games", which I assume to be Master System games, rock Nintendo's world, but nobody knows it.

lets face the facts xbox arcade has been out for 6 months and they have a very bad selection, do you think nintendo will offer that few titles when it releases it wouldnt suprise me if all nintendo's back catalog of games will be available from the start, ms really needs to sort out the arcade with some propper old school games and if they dont release street fighter soon they can go fúck themselfs
7 - No way
Mighty Boom 04.21.2006 12:10
Xbox live is the S#IT but its not going to smash nintendos virtual console. The reason is there are legions of old school nintendo fans, like my self, that are anxiously waiting for nintedos virtual library of 8, 16, and 64 bit games. If I were the one who wrote this piece, I would tone the language down a bit. No pun intended.

I just wish that someone would make an mmo based on my childhood cartoons! Just think if they had a GI JOE mmo or Thunder Cats game called The Sword of Omens or better yet a Transformers or He Man mmo where you could play any of your favorite characters! Just a thought but something that I know many of us would like and would definetly push the Next Generation! What do you guys think about games like these? I personally think a company like Bungie or Rare would do justice for games like this! Anyways im just chatting and hope I can see some Nights, Golden Axe, Zillion, Wonder Boy,maybe Double Dragon, and the original Phantasy Star and Target Earth on Xbox Live Arcade to name a few! I know nintendo had there games but so did Sega!

nes, snes, mame emulation has been done to death. It's interesting b/c IMO nostalgia is not really a factor if you own a PC. Or hell anybody own a dreamcast? If it's a virtual console your after dreamcast was hacked to sh!t. adding XBL type features is really key to these games. I'd love to play metal slug with a co-op mode. can't wait for SFII with online matchmaking. Back in the sonic one days me and my friends would spend hours trying to complete the first level with the quickest time. A leaderboard for this sort of thing on all levels would be great. they'll need to find ways to improve these games through online features to get me to plop down points for old titles.

MAME is an arcade emulator, that is, it is a program that, if you download the files of old arcade games (called ROMs), can run them on your computer. If MAME were for the 360, then all those old arcade games could be played on your 360.
25 - This could be amazing...
Unregistered - g_CodeMonkey 04.22.2006 21:51
Imagine downloading the full arcade version from XBL to run on the emulator, licensed and legal. Wow!! To me, that kills the Nintendo tricks, but then I wasn't a Zelda fan either. As retarded as it seems, I loved Elevator Action. I'd take that in a heartbeat.
