Nintendo has just released a press release and two sites confirming the name of Nintendo's next-generation console, code-named Revolution, as well as a video proving the name to be accurate.

It seems so weird now, but give it a bit of time and "Wii" will become part of the gamer lexicon. I imagine thats what people will say as they play the Wii....Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii! Either that or, Owwwwwwww my arms hurt! Unregistered - LilClaw 04.27.2006 16:27 Well I think I'm going to end up calling it (like many others), the Revolution. Or perhaps call it just Nintendo. I can't imagine calling it Nintendo Wii. Then again only time will tell. Unregistered - mafia 04.27.2006 16:29 This may be the first name for a console ever, lol. Having said that, I think the revolution (oops, Wii) may win the console battle this time around so I guess it won't matter. Unregistered - mafia 04.27.2006 16:29 Not "first" I meant "worst" console name ever. Unregistered - bpmurr 04.27.2006 16:38 Remember most people thought the name Nintendo DS sucked. The sales have proven otherwise. I don't care if they call it the Nintendo Pile of Crap (NPOC) as long as it has great games. Unregistered - diohgfdh 04.27.2006 16:42 "Wii" means we. everyone cna pronuce we around the whole world. still i would like it to be called the nintendo revoultion. Unregistered - Mii 04.27.2006 16:42 Wii like pii???? It seems that next gen console wars will between our beloved Xbox 360 and the grillstation or should it be the delaystation, wiiiiii PAUL CERULA 04.27.2006 16:43 For so many reasons I'm sorry but Nintendo's Wii is going to implode and fail in 1 year after release. No one wants xbox 1 graphics and a remote with a numb chuck to shoot people or interact with environments. It'll be slow, and very dumbed down senses with aiming and what not. Yah people will buy it for 200 or whatever but when they end up paying 50 bucks each game for old-gen performance the Nintendo vision will become clear. And support will drop like flies as the time goes by. Sorry but Nintendo's said if this fails they're out of the business...they can join Sega. Unregistered - Sjaak 04.27.2006 17:06 http://www.frashii.com/wldo.swf Wheeeeeeee! Unregistered - jo 04.27.2006 17:10 WII / WTF / WHY such a crap name Unregistered - RealDoubleJ 04.27.2006 17:11 remember the Gamecube's codename? Everyone preferred knowing that as 'Dolphin' when it came out! Give it time (& innovation) & maybe "wee" will be the new 'buzzword'....or it can be the most embarrassing console public relations ever. sparco 04.27.2006 17:26 .........I like it lol Unregistered - wiiiiiii 04.27.2006 17:29 i dont like it i have always luved nintendo till the gameqube now i luv 360 and my ps2 and my xbox 1 anyway good luck to nintendo now playing super mario world on the snes Unregistered - s 04.27.2006 17:37 if nintendo goes out of business this would harm the industry and the gamers entirely. less competition means more expensive and less quality products and this means screwing us the consumers. so shut your trap...your not Nostradamus. Unregistered - GioneBurnZ 04.27.2006 17:39 http://www.frashii.com/wldo.swf To the guy who posted this links: THANKS, I have brainfarts now. Unregistered - I can see the future 04.27.2006 17:51 Except for Nintendo employees, and regular internet news readers like myself, everyone is gonna call this system the Nintendo Wii (as in Why). Consumer: You got any 'whys' in stock? xbox360rocks 04.27.2006 17:55 Excuse me while I go play with my Wii Wii, HA! Unregistered - Unknown 04.27.2006 17:57 First of all, this system will not run out of business. Second of all, Nintendo said their games will be cheaper than $50 dollars. Last but not least, Nintendo Wii will bring back innovation in games, because games need it. People don't want the same kind of games with just better graphics, and no improvement over the original. When this system comes out people will see the greatness of Wii for what it is. I have seen the graphics for Wii. It looks just like Xbox360's graphics expect it's not Hi-Def. Go look at the latest Game Informer Magazine that shows you footage of that game call Red Steel, which is on Nintendo Wii. When E3 comes out you will think twice about judging Wii!!!!! Unregistered - mike 04.27.2006 17:59 nintendo make great games but there new concole just doesnt cut it, if all they want to do is appeal to kids cant they do that with just games Unregistered - pRo loGic 04.27.2006 18:08 NINTENDO had something like that controller in the late 80's it sucked!.As the big shots come out with kids games, NINTENDO will slowly die,and that's coming from a die hard NINTENDO fan ,well i was. Unregistered - OMFG 04.27.2006 18:13 that is the stupidest name ever, im just gonna keep calling it the Revolution. Unregistered - Preston 04.27.2006 18:15 First of all, I don't think the technology for this kind of controller was around in the 80's. Second of all, in no way will this compete with the PS3 or 360. Its only going to be like 150 bucks. Stop hating it just cause its not microsoft. Hate it cuz its name is retarded, but still give it a chance because this looks to be more innovative than anything ms or sony is doing Unregistered - Unknown 04.27.2006 18:24 Nintendo is the reason why playstation and Xbox has analog sticks and rumble pack, which is dated now. Soon people will see what that controller could do, because we don't know everything about it there are still secrets. Nintendo wii may not have the film like graphics like Xbox360 and PS3, but it has next gen gameplay that could possibly overshadowed Xbox360 and PS3. Nintendo will come back with vengeance, taking back the crown which has been long forgotten. CROWN NINTENDO THE MARKET LEADER!!!! Nuff said. Unregistered - jo 04.27.2006 18:25 While the code-name 'Revolution' expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that separates game players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games … and each other. But you're probably asking: What does the name mean? Wii sounds like "we," which emphasizes this console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii. Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play. And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of video games that sets it apart from the crowd. So that's Wii. But now Nintendo needs you.Because, it's really not about you or me.It's about Wii.And together, Wii will change everything Islandkiwi 04.27.2006 18:28 It's a horrible name. As Nintendo gamers age, they want to be able to point to the more mature titles available. Resident Evil, etc. But now they have to choke down a console called Wii? The sound you make playing on a swing, going down a slide? Doesn't it just scream fairy magic? Can't you see Princess Peach sliding down a hill, screaming "Wii!!!". The Rev was going to be my second system, but I'm now having doubts. It's my opinion that the Gamecube had a limited number of great games, and that Nintendo's prices do not drop as quickly as other consoles. Now I have to contend with a name that, as a guy in his early 30's, no way am I willing to utter in public. I'm stepping back from the cash register and am now adopting a wait-and-see stance. Unregistered - ee 04.27.2006 18:31 Im just going to wait and see what the games look like before I even consider getting one! I think that everyone here is a nintendo fan deep down inside but this name simply pushes me away! Say what you want but I don't see a very good future for Nintendo but I could be wrong! Unregistered - icehouse stan 04.27.2006 18:38 #26-who cares! i cant see some body that had a hard day doing more work to play a game all that sony and ms haft to do is copy it and nintendo is done Unregistered - Unknown 04.27.2006 18:47 Nintendo is the reason why innovation is in games exist, and that's a lot to say about a system we all grew up from. You guys know it's true that Nintendo was the first, so why go against it when it will bring back innovation? So what if they name it Wii, it sounds better than Betamax ( are whatever you call it) which was made from Sony. Nintendo will save this industry. ALL FOR NINTENDO THE INNOVATOR OF THE GAME INDUSTRY. FROM NOW ON I,M A FAN OF ALL 3 SYSTEMS!!! YES! SONY'S PLAYSTATION ALSO, BECAUSE EVERY SYSTEM HAS THERE OWN GOOD GAMES. Unregistered - officerhardbody 04.27.2006 18:48 I am dreaming of playing Punch out with the controllers ,have you guy's played a simulated boxing game in arcades,?it rocked did it not?im shure the controller is dead on accurate, and i hope to hack &slash with a resident evil made exclusively for wii controllers,or lighhtsaber duels fights on star wars,or fishing; So many ways to use this gadget it's a kids dream, pick up and play action for noobs, wii will be a good break from the average controller, and for once good excersice, just dont lose the controllers under the couch. Unregistered - dc 04.27.2006 18:51 It's a name, just because it's nothing as amazing as 'Revolution', doesn't mean that the console its self is going to suck. If it bothers you that much, why not just still call it the Revo? Oh yeah it's because your backwards....... Mighty Boom 04.27.2006 19:18 I love nintendo but this name blows!!! Mighty Boom 04.27.2006 19:21 Yea, nintendo needs to go hardcore for sure!!! Unregistered - Ken 04.27.2006 20:36 Napster, google, atari, ipod, gamecube, heck..even xbox are all weird and not so normal names....so Wii will join the ranks of weird names...by the time this system launches..we will have forgotten about how Wii is weird... DOLBY DI GA TAL pf 04.27.2006 20:37 don't forget that nintendo is the industry's grandpa:(I agree!)/ god dammit!! it's not going to change the system: (So # 42 some of the people do agree with you.)The Nintendo is circling the toilet, but that's nice of you to have so much support for a great company.Dispite being the fore-runner for great consoles does not change the fact that Sony & MS has the their fingers on the flusher. DOLBY DI GA TAL pf 04.27.2006 20:45 Comment 46 was fun Wiiiiiii!!! i can see it now ,[can i get Mario Party 35 for the Wii].there will be 100 differant controllers coming out every year with that thing they call the Wii. FreeMonk 04.27.2006 21:09 Personally, I like the name 'Revolution' better. Sounds more serious! "Wii" sounds a little stupid and childish. Just imagine going into a store and saying "Have you got any wii's" Your either gonna get laughed at, or 6 security blokes carry you outside the store and beat the crap out of you. Either way, if Nintendo fail this time, and decide to go the way of Sega, we all know that MS will be the one's who buy them out. MS have been after Nintendo for years, hence why they have Rare! Nintendo will be MS bitach soon! Come to the dark side Nintendo! Unregistered - er 04.27.2006 21:29 Hey mom can I go over to Peters house to play with his Wii? PAUL CERULA 04.28.2006 00:31 A very possible scenario is that MS buys Nintendo and in turn all their games go to the 360. The wii is definately geared towards children <13 but in the long run it just won't deliver. No matter what they do this wii will do around as good as the gamecube. In which nintendo said if that happened than they would leave the console business. I came off a little too strong and it's like this. Either it does great or it does less than the gamecube. A child's gonna want a 360 at 300 or 400 rather than playing marios next adventure. And you know more than ever that a 360 and ps3 can deliver with child's, adventure, and many other genres that would blow away any wii game. They may be fun the first year but when people get sick of xbox 1 graphics they'll switch over or not dig in. Knowing the mind set of exclusive nintendo games those graphics probably won't even come close to the level of halo 2 or others. The lifespan of wii is looking to be very so short. And even if the interface of the controller is a success it will still not justify the investment for most people. As it stands I'm saying a 70% chance this console will fail withing 2 years of its release. I don't want them to fail it's just how it's probably going to be. Instead of spurting out nonsense of me being an idiot give me reasons why the public would want this more than a 360 or ps3 off the bat. And why you think the weilding of a remote pointing a dot on a screen is more appetising than a 360 controller. Being able to flick your wrist will get old and tiring. start looking at this with a level head than post something against me. and that's real... Unregistered - DIGITA-L-IFE 04.28.2006 01:53 WWWWWWiiiiiiiiiiiii SUPER MONKEY BALL LOL FreeMonk 04.28.2006 01:54 I totally agree with Paul myself. If the Nintendo Wii had the same sort of graphical power as the 360 and PS3, then yes, it may stand a chance with some good backup from Third Party developers as well, and some exclusive games. The problem is that Nintendo have already stated, and if the leaked info is true, shows that the Wii is going to have the same grapical power as an original X-Box. This is going to be a huge disadvangtage to Nintendo, because although playablity is the No.1 factor in any game, a very close 2nd is graphics. If it looks pretty, it will sell, if it's look like an old PS2 game when it's supposed to be next gen, then it's going to fail. I personally don't want to go a step back and play games that are playable but have old gen graphics when I can play a game that's playable and has unbelievable graphics on my 360 or PS3. The only thing that will save Nintendo is if this new controller is truely amazing, similar to the Nintendo DS. That is ourselling the PSP by the bucket loads because of the stylus and great games dispite having a lot less graphical power and style compared to the PSP. This could happen to the Wii, but I just don't see this happening. It'll be like the Eyetoy, ok for a few hours, but then it will get boring. I hope I'm proven wrong, but I just can't see it! If Nintendo stops making consoles, expect MS to buy them out, especially because there's bad blood between Nintendo and Sony anyway over the whole SNES CD thing and Sony pulling out and making it themselves which turned out to be the PS1 back in the 1990's! Unregistered - DIGITA-L-ife 04.28.2006 02:01 With names like Wii and games like SMB it's not going to last any longer than longer than the hype, one topps. SUPER MONKEY BALL!!!!!!! THE HIVE TYRANT 04.28.2006 06:33 wii like wi fi remember the revollution or wii now doesnt use ethernet cables to connect online its purly wi fi enabled so there complimenting on its online usage thats just my understanding i could be wrong but yea uve got wii that rimes wit pi and the 360 which is a complete circle almost like a revolution so now sony just needs to change there concole to a mathematic equation like pse=mc2 Unregistered - famo 04.28.2006 11:51 I will buy the Nintendo over ps3 anyday. Nintendo is fun for all ages. Mario kicks a@@!!! Mario cart is like 007 on nintendo. Those 2 games alone would sell the console. Nintendo will be at E3 and I think everyone is in for a surprise. Expect Nintendo to bring it baby!!! Unregistered - zed 04.28.2006 12:47 I'll buy one for my son. The big boy toys for me - 360 and PS3. Wii for him. Unregistered - yup thats me 04.28.2006 13:35 Whoever said MS might buy nintendo? PAUL? PAUL WHO?LOL.... Nintendo has been in the console business the longest out of the three. They arent going anywhere. And yeah Mom will buy the nintendo over all three for young kids for sure. The other two conosles have nothing for 13 and under! Get real it aint gonna happen..What are you smoking? I own a 360 and love it but we got to put an end to the nonsense comments! Unregistered - get real 04.28.2006 13:48 Your comment is nonsense get real it wont last 2 years Unregistered - asdfghjkl 04.28.2006 14:07 They lasted the longest out of all console makers beatch. They made the controller what it is today and their new controller will do the same. Get off pauls nuts beatch!! E3 they will shock all. Did you see the screens to their new game? It looks pretty damn good to me! Unregistered - get real 04.28.2006 16:05 Past civilizations are resposible for the civilization we have today but do you see any of them around .Is the missing link alive today nope!, asdfghjkl your comment is a bad example. PAUL CERULA 04.28.2006 17:29 #72, I said MS buying Nintendo was possible. But of course its unlikely because it's a foreign company and they'd simply back out of the consoles and go all portable. so it's unlikely, deal with it. Look it's bad when a portable device can have better graphics than a Wii game. And my emphasis on a short life span and the remote thing will get old and annoying. Because of its interface on the tv being blurry in performance. Along with the remote idea not being ergonomical is carpul tunnel waiting to happen. Much worse than a mouse and keyboard because it'll require different flicks and stretches of the hand. Arsenic 04.28.2006 23:33 IT WOULD BE SO COOL IF MS BUYS NINTENDO MAYBE MARIO CAN MAKE A CAMEO IN HALO 3 OR 4! I REALY HOPE THEY DO! SONY WOULD HAVE A REAL COMPETITOR. Unregistered - foss 04.29.2006 10:53 HAHAHAHAHA thats the worst name i've ever heard in my life. i think there taking the piss.....lol Unregistered - Jeremy 05.01.2006 08:10 Nintendo cannot compete with MS and Sony. I would like to just say the original Nintendo is perphaps one of the best systems ever. That system is what truely started it all. So many memories. I love my 360 dont get me wrong.....I do miss the old NES though. Who is the most recognized character in Gaming history....thats right Mario. Add Comment |
