SOFTWARE giant Microsoft has delivered a 16% rise in third-quarter profits but warned that rising costs - especially for the Xbox games machine - will erode earnings in the coming year. Net profit was $2.98bn (£1.67bn) compared with $2.56bn this time last year, and revenue rose 13% to $10.9bn.

Anyways Xbox 360 will make way more than the original xbox and when MS starts using 65nm process they might actually start making money on each individual console sold plus dont forget the money they get for game sales including the arcade, accessory sales and xbox live. But Microsoft is also spending hundreds of millions sponsoring alot of events and advertisments. People are forgeting the fact Xbox 360 also helped boast Windows Sales since the xbox 360 works beautifully with Windows Media center allowing you to stream movies, music and pictures. However I'm holding off on Media Center and hopefully Vista will push even more functions (maybe using the PC to store X360 data) Unregistered - maz 04.29.2006 05:42 Mate what are you going on about only having one good game to buy and that being Halo3. Get a grip. You are insulting a lot of other game developers. Gears of war and Lost Planet, do these games ring a bell, they look pretty good to me, and the video's shown are in game. And that’s just 2 never mind the others. Unregistered - kjaskdlhasfjkh 04.29.2006 12:32 GRAW, OBLIVON, TR those are already out with many more coming. By November the 360 will have many killer exclusive apps out..GOW, MASS EFFECT, LOST PLANET, ETC AND MANY MORE. Halo 3 will be good but Halo1 was OK H2 was OK and H3 will be awsome graphically. Other games will be just a killer Halo isnt the only game! Unregistered - TMoney 04.29.2006 14:37 So far on 360: GRAW, Fight Night: Round 3, Project Gotham 3, Oblivion, Dead or Alive 4. These games are stellar additions to the lineup for any console. 360 has one of the best first person shooters ever with GRAW; the best boxing game ever with Fight Night 3; one of the best arcade racers with PGR3, and one of the most acclaimed RPG's ever with Oblivion. And you're saying that Halo 3 is the only game worth buying? I'm a huge FPS fan but I don't limit my enjoyment with one genre. If that's the only game you enjoy why bother even getting a console? Just play Halo on your PC. As for the losses with 360. I doubt MS will fully recoup the losses of development/manufacturing of the 360 and the Xbox Live infrastructure (totaling over three billion dollars) anytime soon. MS will NOT make up the losses with the games, the Xbox Live subscription, the ingame advertisement, etc within the next five years. Such initial losses would normally put a company into a stock market freefall and possible bankruptcy. Such a war just about did that to Sega when the Dreamcast crashed and burned. However, the execs at MS are not stupid. Recouping such losses in the near future is not the primary goal for MS. Before you flame me for making such comments...read on. This latest console war is really for all the marbles...and I don't just mean the "measly" two billion dollar gaming industry. The 360 and the PS3 is just the opening salvo for the future dominance of the much of the home entertainment industry. Both consoles are attempting to consolidate technologies that will practically put the entire home entertainment market into the corporate hands of either MS or Sony. This will position the winner to dominate a ten billion dollar market(just in the U.S.). MS doesn't realistically plan on overtaking the console marketshare from Sony with the 360. I believe, they are looking to take enough of the market and defeat Sony's Blue Ray push so that Sony will be sufficiently weakened for the next and possibly final "console war". More of my treatise in a later post. Disagree with me? Flame on. Add Comment |
