In case you havent been keeping up bud, 9/10 of the ps3 exclusives have now been announced for release on X360. The difference in speeds is very minimal, and probably wont make the slightest difference. *cough*Unregistered - ggaga 05.02.2006 11:03 and unfortunatley, the "next gen dvd player" isnt a dvd player bud...its blu-ray, and its a shame that even though the storage may be huge, the speed of the player wont run fast enough to turn out all the data too fast...expect huge load times, and expect slow games, because of the slow first gen blu-ray drive, the entire horsepower of the system will be limited by that. 10 -

Its far more effeicient in getting information from the cpu to the gpu and the memory. Just because rsx is 550MHZ and Xenos is 500 doesn't make rsx better... Reality check AMD uses lower clock speeds for all their processors in most cases the core clock on on the AMD processors are atleast 600-1000MHZ less and guess what? The amd processors still outperform the intel processors. In the case of the 360 and the PS3 the ps3 has a 50 megahertz advantage.... that is NOTHING. The 360's gpu has 48 shader units 48 of these shader units can be used for pixel shader processing or vertex shader processing. Whereas the ps3's gpu only has 24 pixel pipelines and 8 vertex pipelines. The rsx has more raw horsepower, but thats all it has. Its nowhere nearly as efficient as the 360's gpu. The 360 gpu is 95-99% efficient with 4XFSAA enabled and achieves a fillrate performance of 16 gigasamples. The peak fillrate possible on the rsx is 13.2 gigsamples, but guess what? Due to it not being nearly as efficient as the 360's gpu it doesn't achieve that 13.2 gigasample fillrate. The 360 gpu doesn't need more raw horsepower because it has twice the pixel shader units and 6 times the vertex shader units. Want to know the most important reason as to why the rsx can't achieve its peak rendering performance? It lacks the proper amount of video memory bandwidth. The ps3's rsx has a video memory bandwidth of 48GB per second. Take a guess what the 360's gpu has? 256GB per second (that isn't a typo) It has more than 5 times the video memory bandwidth of the ps3's rsx. The 360's gpu isn't as hindered as the rsx is. Video memory bandwidth is one of the MOST important things in regards to a gpu's graphics performance and the 360 has more than 5 times what the ps3 has. That extra video memory bandwidth will go an amazingly long way in allowing the 360 to continually surprise people with its graphics capabilities throughout its entire lifespan. No pc gpu will have 256GB of video memory bandwidth anytime soon. Even 2 years from now you are likely not still not to see such an excessive amount of video memory bandwidth. 19 -

It is because there are other things that can be made efficient or optimized in a GPU that doesn't require a total re-engineering. It cost alot of money to build a new GPU. There is Evidence in this fact when comparing Nvidia based graphic Cards to ATI based graphic cards on a PC - Nvidia is a better value for the money. The performance gained from the unified architecture, as of now, does not justify the cost that ATI id charging us consumers. Is a Unified architecture the future? Yes, even Nvidia said it was. However, Nvidia has mention numerous times that there is alot of Life left in the Traditional way a GPU is design. They have repeatedly said they are persuing other areas of optimization that will improve the Current Design of their GPUs with out the extra cost of a redesign. Will ATI eventually get ahead because they Leaped first. Maybe. It's a big risk to enter the market first. I firmly believe that Nvidia already has a Unified Architecture under raps. But why bring it out when your current GPUs are still competitive? You don't! - you continually improve upon it. There is no pressure in rushing it out right now - even if the ATI's UA is more efficient it's still not powerful enough to pull ahead as a dominate force in gaming. ATI rushed their new GPU architecture. It wasn't until the 1900 series cards that ATI started seeing performance gains above the Nvidia Cards and it wasn't a Leap but a small bump in perforance. A Pc equiped with a 1900 series card will out perform an Xbox 360 GPU hands down all you have to do is compare Oblivion Game on both platforms. Rumors suggest that the RSX is basically an optimised Nvidia 7900 series GPU. If that's the case, it should compare favorably to to the current GPUs in Power and Speed that are offered by Nvidia and ATI on a PC today. Xbox 360 can't claim any such thing because it is not as powerful as the cards offered by ATI today. However, in defense of Xbox 360 fans neither can PS3. That is only because we have not seen a real world performance of a PS3 and we won't until launch date and after. Hopefully at E3 we can get some real specs on the PS3 and see some real-time game play. If the PS3 proves its potential at E3, then I doubt we will see too many Xbots on this forum. (Yea!) Remember that all the PS3 has to do is at least equal the Xbox 360 WOWness. Why? Because Even though its E3, there is still at least Six months of optimizing the software but I feel we won't be disappointed. Most Game Plubishers were expecting a Spring Release and so we should see some games with some decent graphics/physic demonstrations. Some PS3 fan correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the optimised compiler for the PS3, IBM's Octopiler, not even released yet. Last I heard IBM wasn't going to ship it till July. Point is that even at E3, Spectacular or not, the games are still just a playable demo with work yet to be done on the games. Actually if you think about it, E3 is going to be tough for Sony. A really polished playable demo may give people the impression that it is a finished product especially if the demo is similar in quality to a Xbox 360 graphically. Being similar in Quality to Xbox 360 is nothing to be ashamed about but Sony needs a WOW factor to succeed. It's going to be tough to convince consumers that this Xbox quality game is going to look and run better in six months. However, and little less polish game but playable is easier to convince people that Hey there's room for improvement but of course we won't hear the end of it from Xbots. Its my opinion, Sony needs at least 2 Game playable game demos that literally put the Xbox 360 to Shame at E3 and demonstrate that their is still room for improvement for all the games that are only at or below Xbox 360. I know of only one game that is gaurenteed to be above Xbox 360 in terms of performance and that's MGS4. There is alot of potentials though. Unreal Tournament 2007 comes to mind. People don't understand that Unreal Tournament is Epics baby. It is the standard that all their games are based on. For Unreal Tournament to suck would be like Epic cutting their throats. It's all branding. If Gears of War or any other game title failed that utilize the UT Game engine it wouldn't really matter to Epic as long as UT 2007 was awesome. I don't expect it will suck and I not sure if we will see a playable version at E3. What do PS3 fans think? What will be that second Killer App that will pounce the Xbox 360 (maybe Warhawk) and carry all the other games at E3 that will seem similar in comparison to Xbox 360 - any suggestions? 43 -

I stated this in another post but imma say it again. The N64 was more powerful than the ps1. Yet the ps1 sold more systems, why. Because it had more games, and some really cool ones, sports included. The original xbox was more powerful than the ps2, yet the ps2 was infact the console of choice, why? The games. When I had my ps2, I never said to myself, damn, you know self the original xbox is so powerful I dont want the fun games I have on my ps2 with lower specs, and clock speeds etc. I just enjoyed it for what it was, and I still do. Why? I have some great games that I really enjoy. Most games I have and love, are also on the original xbox as well as ps2. Now, that I have my xbox 360, Im not playin it sayin, wow know i have faster gpu better graphic card and pixel shaders, nah thats all bs. Im enjoyin the system for what it is. I said all that to say this, when i get my ps3 I wont care if the 360 had higher specs, clock speeds or is easy to develope than the ps3. Imma be thinkin damn...this game sure is fun and enjoyin the damn system. Games are what make or break a system. More power equals nothin, if you look at history most times the system with the weaker specs sold the most. Why you ask? the games people the games. xbox all the way !!!!Unregistered - me 05.04.2006 10:46 whats wrong with ps fanboys is up until xbox came along sony have never had any real competition. i remember when i got my first xbox about 4 yrs ago a few of my mates who owned the ps2 where like the xbox will go the way of the dreamcast (and i loved my dreamcast :( . but look at it this way u dont see the ps fans flamming the nintendo fans and thats because nintendo aint as big of a threat than microsoft and its coz they know microsoft wont go down without a fight i have alot of faith in microsoft and i have alot of respect for bill gates (even though his os have some flaws) coz hes brought a product into my living room that has given me hours of gaming pleasure. i respect sony and nintendo also but the xbox 360 was my choice coz ive had a very good experience with my original xbox and ive not had any probs with my 360. this time round the xbox is better prepared than in last gen Add Comment |
