Sony announced today that it would launch the PS3 in “Clear Black” in mainland Europe, US and Australasia on November 17, 2006, as part of a worldwide simultaneous launch. The PS3 will be equipped with Blu-ray and Pre-Installed HDD and be available at €499 (20GB HDD) and €599 (60GB HDD) in Europe, and $499 and $599 in the US.

Where was killzone (confirmation that last years presentation was all fmv), copying nintendo with handheld connectivity (didnt they bash Nintendo for this last go around), copying MS with a dead on live rip off (didn't Sony state that online was not really as important as MS made it out to be). The best was when they had the developer play the hack n slash game (name escapes me) and he made a big deal about killing a spider. It was by far the worst demo that I have ever seen (Looked like dynasty warriors 0.5). He pitched the game as a historical game set in Japan, yet you kill giant spiders, and wield telephone pole sized weapons....perhaps I missed that lesson in history!>? It sounded just like a bunch of fast talking that you get when you're talking to a car salesman that wants to sale a ten year old car over the book value. The motion sensitivity of the controller was a nice addition, but it was obviously a rushed and last minute design. I can't forgive them for not showing a real-time demo of Killzone2 up and running. Did anyone else besides me remember the most controversial E3 game of 2005? Comeon Sony, this was your time to defend the comment that the Xbox360 is the Xbox1.5. Besides the blue-ray player, why do we have to pay $499 for a core unit and $599 for a premium unit? That's just too much. That is no way to mass market any product. The game pads have no rumble feature, bluray movie discs will cost $50+ and will not be able to contain backwardly compatable DVD data for DVD drives (something planned for HD-DVD discs). Also (and this is the worst) a 2x speed drive?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! are you kidding me sony? i havent seen something that slow in a games machine since... oh yes, playstation 1! Therefore the blu ray does not have to spin as fast to achieve the same mb/s. i dont see how usb is going to support hd-dvd quality movies. FreeMonk 05.09.2006 01:39 Well, as a big fan of the X360 (I now have 8 titles for it, something I have never done with any other console in this short a time), I am really impressed by the graphical power of the PS3 of the bat. All the games shown in real-time (if they are actually running on final PS3 hardward), look amazing and in some respects better than the next batch of 360 stuff coming out. Heavenly Sword left me with my mouth open. It looks soooo crisp and shart, and even when the bodies are dead, they stay there and keep the graphical power going with no slow down. Final Fantasy 13 looks fantasic as well, along with Metal Gear Solid 4. Plus with a competitive price as well, plus a true worldwide launch, I might be pursuaded to purchase it. MS NEED to show games that are on that same standard of graphical power or better, or they are going to be in serious trouble. Yeah, Gears of War, Too Human and Mass Effect all look amazing, but honestly looking at those trailers for MGS4, Heavenly sword and FF13 which are pretty crappy quality trailers, they kick the crap out of Gears/Mass/Human. I'm not saying that Sony isn't lying, and I'm definatly not being a Sony fanboy, but Sony has pushed the boat out, and MS need to do so to. I'm hoping so, because MS and Nintendo put a lot of work into there consoles, and it seems Sony just take things from them, put an better chip in a sell it on. I hope MS crap over Sony, but it's a tough act to beat! Anyone from the XBox scene who says the PS3 is sh1t is basicly as bad as a Sony Fanboy. Hmmmm....Lets Think Business Like...Unregistered - Indabayou 05.09.2006 05:08 Off topic a little....ps3 had a blue ray disc player...hmmm consumers haven't even adopted a format yet....so thats a risk...and microsoft has an add on hd-dvd coming soon (i hope)...consumers haven't chosen that format either...now ask yourself a question..first question is how long is a gaming systems life now a days....4 or maybe 5 years before a new system comes out...i think that correct...now the last format war was vhs to dvd....it took people about 2 to 3 years to really embrace the dvd format were it is a standard now and about lets say 80 % of people own a dvd player...now a blue disc player comes out for what 800 dollars or something like that right.....now how long do u think it will take consumer to embrace the new dvd format....and get rid of the dvd format...hmmm lets just say another 2 to 3 years....right...by the gaming systems live expectancy microsoft has already been out about half a year or so give or take a little....so it has 3 1/2 more years before the new Xbox comes out if the trends of new gaming systems continues....now keep in mind that the hd-dvd's nor the blue ray disc's are even out yet...and by guessing won't become main stream until lets say 2008 or 2009...right (guessing)....by then MS will have a new game system and the format war will be completely over and a winner for the new format will be clearly shown and then Xbox will have a hd-dvd drive or a blue ray disc drive b/c by then it will more popular and waaaaaay in demand.....but u mite say hey by that time i will already have a blue ray disc player (if they win the war) but what will u say to the new playstation 4 that will come by that time....so in some ways microsoft is smart as hell....they say lets not force people to make a choice of which format they want....lets give them a choice so they give the hd-dvd add on and if u want it then buy it....and if a war shows that the blue ray wins then they will make a blue ray add on....oh yeah...thats smart as hell....huh...so microsoft thinks of consumers first then themselves.....Sony cares about themselves and not the consumers and stuff....but hey if u are a true gamer....u will not have these hater words between consoles...b/c thats all they are haters....haters....haters....haters...if u are a gamer and love video games in there purity...then u will buy both consoles...i recommend both consoles b/c some of those trailers looked darn good when they showed them on the conference...the price is very reasonable for everything that comes with the system...i just wonder how much individual controllers are going to cost if there really isn't a design change but u have the blue tooth technology....so i think they will be about 70 a controller.....but why did Sony still technology from Nintendo....very shady....very shady 43 -

If you have ever compared console DVD image quality to a standalone dvd player you would quickly realize that console image quality is vastly inferior. Also, Sony is forcing you to buy the blu ray and adopt it and many people forget to recognize this. I buy a console to play games, not to force me to adopt some new format that may fail in a couple years. At the very least, I'm sure that by the time the PS3 comes out Blu ray players will be only a few hundred bucks anyway. The fact is the 360 is cheaper and it is better for games and has more games available every week due to the 1 year head start. If you are kidding yourself into buying the PS3 simply for blu ray, you are setting yourself up for some major disappointment. The only people who should buy the PS3 are those who want access to exclusive titles, other than that, it is a waste of money. Good luck getting one by christmas, and hope you enjoy the 4 or so games that will be out then. But hey, at least you'll be able to watch the 12 or so blu ray movies on it. 55 -

Microsoft learned from their mistakes (replacing the huge xbox controller with the controller S, for example) but Sony refuses too. (Blueray=Betamax, anyone?) I work for a game store and I guarantee you that this christmas, even if PS3's are in stock (doubtful), parents will quickly follow my advice to buy a 360 and 4 games instead, while I am selling my 5 pre-ordered PS3's to idiot Sony (Phony) fanboys for $1,200.00 apiece! 59 -

hmmmUnregistered - mit 05.10.2006 15:22 Seems like alot of MS fans are giving the 360 an advantage based on the fact that the PS3 controller doesn't rumble... OHHH MY!! What a big difference. I've owned PS2, Xbox, and 360 and have yet to have a controller that the rumble feature stopped working and it hasn't taken anything away from my experiences with games.
