Unregistered - f 05.10.2006 11:20 hey look it has an HDMI connection in the back .hahhahahaha screw you sony Unregistered - Jimbo 05.10.2006 11:20 Judging from the pics, it looks like the drive will hook up to the USB in the back of the 360 where the Wi-Fi adapter usually goes. So i guess we who use the apdater are forced to attach it to the back of the drive itself. Does anyone know if the pass-through will decrease the performance of the Wi-Fi connection since its not going through the console anymore? I really hope not. Unregistered - famo 05.10.2006 11:38 Will I still be able to use my wirless? Doesn't this connect where I would connect that? Unregistered - shooty 05.10.2006 11:39 #4 take a look at the picture of the back of the HD-DVD, the picture will speak for itself and answer the question. Plus what about the price it better be max $150 seeing that a standalone cost $500 Swifty 05.10.2006 11:50 yep youre looking at $150 max price i doubt Microsoft will want to risk going any higher Unregistered - blaze33 05.10.2006 12:06 i thought HD-DVD player is gonna be IN the xbox360..does this mean everyone has xbox360 can get the HD-DVD..and if that true..will we see HD-DVD games in xbox360...that will be great news if it was true :) Unregistered - Ric Hard 05.10.2006 12:14 Anything higher than $150 will start making the PS3 look like a good deal because it already has a high end player in it (The Blu Ray). So I think that Bill Gates is smart to keep it low enough. Because if You add up the 20GB 360 system and a HD DVD for $150 the total is $550 and thats with out tax. So anything higher would make Sony's 60GB system For $599 look like a wonderful deal, Considering your getting 40GB more in the package. So like I said Bill Gates should be smart enough to figure that out and not go above that price range. Unregistered - blaze33 05.10.2006 12:18 but if the gamer who wants ps3 just for gaming....i think 20GB os gonna fine..i know im gonna get the 499$ unit BTW...is there gonna be xbox360 games in HD-DVD format...is it possible? Unregistered - smooooooooooootieie 05.10.2006 12:23 Is that a HDMI output next to the 2 usb's? Or is it just a smaller usb outout? I cant tell. former questionmark 05.10.2006 12:24 you might want to double check. i don't know if it is confirmed yet, but the $499 package appears to be quite stripped down. no hdmi, memory stick, sd, compact flash, or wifi support. you are right about the hd size, but they are suppossedly putting in a tivo like function in the ps3. might need the extra space for content. if i was microsoft, i would release the hd-dvd for $100, drop the 20gig hd to $30, and release a 100gig hd for $100. pro system, plus 100gig hd, plus hd-dvd=$600, plus you have the back-up 20gig that comes with the pro. just me though. Unregistered - Ric Hard 05.10.2006 12:37 You said a mouthful. But everything you brought up is right on the money. MS is in the drivers seat to win this race. But only if they take a few steps in the right direction. If they don't they could find themselves falling behind the competition. They definitely need to consider packaging a system with the 100gb HDD to start looking appealing to people who haven't made up their mind about either system. But like I said point taken. Unregistered - shotty 05.10.2006 12:45 To the person that asked the question about HD-DVD games. The answer is no. It is not because they can't do it but because there is no reason to. The biggest game on xbox 360 and for a long time to come is Oblivion. And this game barely takes up half the disc. The reason the game is relatively big is because of the texturing needed for the 16 square miles of land plus building and caves. Plus the 3000+ characters need individual texturing and voices (things to say). Plus the games has a good half a day's worth of speech. I doubt any game is going to get to that magnitude of size any time soon maybe elderscrolls 5. Plus Oblivion only used procedural synthesis for the forests. Microsoft has said that when used for an entire game you can cut the size by a huge factor. I remember a german company use pocedural synthesis to create a decent FPS that was under 1 Megabyte. Trust me game size will never be an issue on the xbox 360. The only thing that requires massive space is HD video and HD audio. Both xbox and xbox 360 games use in-game engines to render video so size isn't and issue. HD audio is what is actually take up some space but it too is compress using a windows codec. So quite simply no HD-DVD games this generation. The only reason ps3 has blu-ray is because sony owns blu-ray so by forcing people to buy blu-ray with their ps3 they are hoping those customer will have to buy their blu-ray movies, which will bring them money since they make licencing profit for each movie sold. When the customer customers catch on to this scheme I hope they not fall into sony whole DRM scheme and try to own the next generation format. HD-DVD however is create by the international DVD forum the same guys that created the popular DVD format and HD-DVD is also the only format approved by the forum, sony created blu-ray outside the forum. HD-DVD is backed by major PC companies (ie Microsoft, Intel, HP, ATI) and movie companies (Universal, Warner Brothers, Paramount, former questionmark 05.10.2006 12:47 i'm mainly looking for the bigger hard drive for when the direct tv deal kicks in. streaming content, high def movies, and on demand content. i really could care less about hd-dvd. progressive scan on my lcd looks pefectly fine to me. don't see the need for it as of right now. by the time i would actually want it, it will probably be a lot less expensive for them to produce. if they use it for games, and devs actually utilize it, i might reconsider. but i doubt that will be any time soon. Unregistered - f 05.10.2006 12:48 HDMI is the small port to the left Unregistered - haha 05.10.2006 12:52 this makes your qu@@r box even bigger. wahhaha pathetic f@gs former questionmark 05.10.2006 13:02 not used to handling big things haha? fits perfectly next to the system, even on top if you prefer. besides, no one has to buy it if they don't want to. SIMPLE. Unregistered - popopopopoopopopopo 05.10.2006 13:04 Hey go back to ps3 beotch!! You are tring to flame the hd dvd!! With the add on the 360 will still be cheaper than ps3!! 2 HDMI outputs also!! Unregistered - sdasfasdf 05.10.2006 13:07 i dont think that is an hdmi port, its too small. i mean its next to a usb port so you can see for yourself. im pretty sure thats just a mini-usb port, the hdmi port on my tv is like twice as big. second it would just be silly to have your xbox connected to you tv via one port and the drive connected to your xbox and then tv via another as well. i read someplace that micrsoft used some in cable (the usb cable that will connect to drive to the xbox) trickery to get around the hdmi crap. Unregistered - opopopoopopopopo 05.10.2006 13:09 4 - the guy actually admit why he come here^^ Unregistered - blaze33 05.10.2006 11:56 i still dont understand...why do you xbox fanboys always start flame wars in this site....you like you xbox360..fine stay with it..but dont come here and bash the ps3...dont you understand yet..nobody cares about your opnion..its not like when you say stuff like(ps3 sucks!!)...or any thing like that gonna affect us...there is so much of xbox fan in these site thats only come and make fun at the ps3....for that reason im thinking to not come to this site again..its you xbox fanboys who gonna ruin this site... and everytime these fanboys act like kids...its only make wanna stay away from xbox360 more...and get closer to ps3... -So blaze why are you on here trying to flame the 360? Sounds like you are eating your own words you little homo. Blaze is a 10 year old fanboy thats mad he waited for the overhyped crappy POS3!!! Sony has nothing to offer in that POS!!! Sony is a joke. Go wait in the corner for your ps3 Blaze33 you little queer!! Unregistered - ijoiu 05.10.2006 13:10 why is there a power plug connection on it? it wont be powered via the usb cable? thats kinda stupid. Unregistered - MR I PLEAD THE FIFTH 05.10.2006 13:13 I HAVE A HIGH DEFINITION TV. HOWEVER IT DOES NOT HAVE A DVI ON IT. I HEARD THAT THROUGH THE XBOX 360 AND THE 360 HD-DVD YOU CAN GET THE TRUE HIGH DEFINITION DVD PICTURE. THAT MY FRIEND IS WHAT I CALL A LOOP HOLE HOW MUCH IS THIS 360 HD-DVD GOING TO COST? A USB isnt going to power the drive you are dumb! Unregistered - TheBLAHBLAHBLAH 05.10.2006 13:17 http://www.digitalconnection.com/FAQ/images/dvi_hdmi.gif There is a pic of HDMI. It does look like that port on back of HD-DVD is USB, not HDMI. On xboxic they said rumor was the price was $199. Unregistered - MR I PLEAD THE FIFTH 05.10.2006 13:19 I HAVE A HIGH DEFINITION TV. Unregistered - dsfsf 05.10.2006 13:26 first of all the drive could be powered by usb.... kinda like I DONT KNOW WHEN YOU CONNECT 99% OF CURRENT USB EXTERNAL DRIVES TO A PC! the 360 shouldnt be any different. and needing an extra outlet is crappy. Unregistered - D Don 05.10.2006 13:30 i dont see any hdmi connections ??? if your talking about the small thing at the left of the 2 input usb ports it isnt its an output usb port look at it carefully it looks a lot more like this (psp output port) http://www.thaipsp.net/reviews/pspmagnifier/13.jpg than this (real hdmi port) http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/ca/learningcenter/home/HDMI-jack-med.jpg Unregistered - MR I PLEAD THE FIFTH 05.10.2006 13:32 IF THE PRICE OF MICROSOFT'S HD-DVD IS ONLY $99 THAT WOULD BE SWEET. Unregistered - s 05.10.2006 13:42 It connects to your 360 and play off the 360. If you 360 is connected to your PC is will play on the PC, if it's connected to your TV it will play from there. Unregistered - MR I PLEAD THE FIFTH 05.10.2006 13:52 I AGREE WITH YOU 100% I THINK THAT THE XBOX 360 IS THE BEST VIDEO GAME SYSTEM TO HIT THE FACE OF THE PLANET. I DON'T THINK PEOPLE FROM SONY OR NINTENDO SITES ETC, SHOULD TRY TO START FLAMING WARS. PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE FUN WITH THE GAME SYSTEM'S/GAME'S THEY OWN AND TRY TO FIND OUT ABOUT THE NEW GAMES/SYTEM'S COMING OUT, NOT MUDDSLING OTHER GAME SYTEM'S OR START FLAMING WARS. #20 YOU HAVE BEEN HERE FOR 10 YEARS I WOUL NOT LET THIS WAR STARTER CHASE ME AWAY FROM THIS SIGHT AFTER BEIBG ON SO LONG, BECAUSE IF YOU RUN YOU WILL BE RUNNING THE REST OF YOU'RE LIFE. I ENJOY YOURE ARTICLE'S. SO HSANG INTHERE AND DON'T QUIT. Unregistered - Just my thoughts ladies and germs 05.10.2006 15:06 Personally, if its not outta the box, I dont want it. Then on top of the Ms is not even using it for gaming. Its just for movies so whats the purpose? is it to say he look i have a hddvd player when in fact if you really wanted to watch a movie on your console, the 360 is already equiped with a progressive scan dvd player. It would have been cool if the hd dvd player was built in and was for gaming. dont get me wrong people will like it but just dont mean much to me, i think they need to step up their game and really open the flood game with games. They are really kickin sony in the @ss right now, but if sony has better quality of games then their sales will fall. I love my 360, i couldnt careless about a add on, i just want more and more games, ps3 suckss.. Unregistered - Halo123 05.10.2006 15:32 This is not GOOD!!! I don't have enough room for the HD DVD PLAYER! unless I put my 360 standing, but if I do that my 360 WILL SCRATCH MY GAMES!!!!!!! this is not good FuK! ANY IDEAS? SOMEONE ... Unregistered - XBOX MAN FOREVER 05.10.2006 15:38 VERY few (if any) 1080p TVs support 1080p through component cables. To watch HD movies in 1080p, YOU NEED HDMI. It looks like there's NOT an HDMI output, which means you'll only get a 720p or 1080i signal. That's not good. Unregistered - Please read carefully..... 05.10.2006 15:56 Man i dont know about ya'll but im not gettin caught up in all this hi def movie crap. Look if you are like me and own a 32" lcd hi def tv..then you know when you hook up your progressive scan dvd player that it upscales your regular dvd's to near hd dvd quality, and yes you can see that much of a difference even with your regular dvd's. So i fail to see a purpose of buying these early versions of hd dvd add ons or what ever that isnt worth it. Look how long dvd players been around and how long it took them to achieve near hd quality and look how cheap they've become i mean you can get one for 99 dollars now a days. And the playback feat. are great. I dont know but i just dont buy into blue ray or none of that this early in the game. Progressive scan is tested, tried and true. LCD tv...progressive scan dvd player = gorgeous visual. Ugly American 05.10.2006 16:53 You have two USB 2.0 ports in the back(one to hook to the 360, the other to hook up your Wi-Fi adapter) and the smaller one is firewire. Why is there firewire on the back of this thing? I have no idea, but I know what it is. Unregistered - DEIx15x8 05.10.2006 20:39 It's not firewire, it is USB mini. One of the many different USB variants. Look at the "new" (if you can call it that) PS3 controller, it uses one on the top to get power. Add Comment |
