Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz at E3 this week, Microsoft's games boss Peter Moore discusses his reaction to Sony and Nintendo's conferences, and Microsoft's own plans for the future of the games business.

Unregistered - shotty 05.11.2006 12:21 WoW. Microsoft has one huge vision. If they can pull it off thats amazing. Imagine cross platform gaming. You like the controller and the big HDTV you buy an xbox 360. You like keyboard and mouse you stick with the PC. We still be able to interact with each other no matter what system we have. It opens up communication in a whole new way. Imagine you are sitting at home playing smash tv on the xbox 360. Your best bud is thousands of miles away on a trip and has his cellphone. Guess what you can still play together by you using your xbox 360 and your bud using their mobile phone. Microsoft truly has a vision and it's great to see a company think like that, unlike sony who's just in it for the money and it's future in 2 years looks grim. It's not about consoles with rather platform people. You though ps had a big install base. how about the millions of xbox users, hundreds of millions of windows users and billions of cell phone users. This is the billion figure J allard was talking about reaching with this generation. See ya I'm going to play GRAW. 2 -

Sony just churn out the same old pad, another ratchet and clank and just make money. They have no love for their consumers. With MS what you see is what you get, no pissing on us as customers, they understand that they are only here now cos of us. SOny just mess gamers around. 6 -

Unregistered - A Dutch Boy 05.11.2006 13:59 I love the way MS is getting new stuff to gaming; new games and especially new ideas. Like said before, imagine a network that has xbox's mobile phones and pc's in it (<- a little problem with mouse advantage, but it will be so cool). With the xbox you saw a lot of sequels/prequels and that is, some times, very annoying. But now, with GoW, Saints Row, Viva Pinata, Blazing Angels, Lost Planet, Too Human and many more. These are all new games, allthough im waiting for a kickass gameplay innovation. Killzone may look cool, but it still isnt playable, and GT4, same storie. And while GTA4, Pro Evo and Resident Evil are coming to the xbox as well this time, i see little reason to buy a ps3 this time. Another thing Moore says sounds like a good question, how can Sony afford to make a network like xbox live, when its free. No mather how big PS-fanboy you are, you have to admit xbox live kicks ass. So, my conclusion: The xbox's future looks bright, very bright PS: Im not a fanboy, just very impressed :P 9 -
Unregistered - shotty 05.11.2006 14:02 You for Backwards Compatibility the xbox 360 has to do more work running a game like Halo 2 then a game like GRAW for xbox 360. My xbox 360 gets way warmer running Halo 2 then running GRAW or Fight night. It because GRAW and FNR3 are written in a language the xbox 360 knows. For a game like Halo 2 the xbox 360 has to take each bit of code for that game compare it against the emulator that tells it that code in xbox 360 language and then continue to render that. Lets make an analogy shall we. I give you a receipe to make Chocolate cake in English and then I give you a recipe to make Chocolate cookies in french. Even though the Cake is more complex it is in a language you understand and therefore you can make it relatively easily. However for the cookie you have to pull out a French/English and translate each word and then continue to make the cake. The xbox 360 can performs this relatively easy but the dictionary it uses has a lot of problems in it thats why some B/C games run fast or have weird things happen to them. The only reason Sony has full B/C is because they own the IP for all their parts. So they take certain parts of the ps2 and imbedded it into the ps3. So when you put a ps2 game into the ps3 it uses the ps2 component so thats why all the games work. Microsoft if they wanted to would have to consult Nvidia and Intel and rework and agreement for a new chipset to fit inside the xbox 360. This would greatly increase it price and to microsoft it was a waste of resources. Why would the customer have to pay more to play last gen games. So instead they created a group of programmers to individually create a "dictionary" for each xbox 1 game. Some programmers used the same methods of creating code which is why games like barbies treehouse are now B/C. I for one feel it's a waste of resources, honestly besides Halo series noone would want to buy a next generation system so they can play the same old game on the xbox 360. MS if you are listening scrap the B/C project and go back to tweaking xbox 360 games to make them perfect and releasing more dashboard updates. 10 -

keyboard and mouseUnregistered - charger 05.11.2006 15:33 advantage...yes. but don't forget that the 360 controller you hold in your hand also works on your PC. who knows how all this will work out, but maybe to cross play say on a first person shooter everyone will have to play with the controller. a pc person who dosen't like it can always just play on pc servers with their mouse and keyboard. just a thought, not saying that is how it will happen. 15 -

I have seen the launch of many consoles, from the Sega Dreamcast, PS2, etc., and I can tell you that this Christmas, when parents come into the store, PS3's on their gift lists, they will turn white when they hear the cost, get red when we tell them they are out of stock, then sing halleluia when we point out the XBOX 360 -- in stock, cheaper, 160+ games, XBOX Live Silver for free, Arcade for mom, Madden for Dad, and Kameo, Viva Pinata, etc. for the little kids, Gears of War, Too Human, and Forza 2 for the older ones. In regards to this article, Mr. Moore is telling the truth. Microsoft LISTENS to what its consumers say-- remember the giant controller that came with the XBOX initially? People said it was too big and so Microsoft came out with the Controller S. Their secrecy about Halo 3 led to lots of speculation, but did anyone believe that MS and Bungie would deny all of their fans what they TRULY wanted? The list goes on.... the changes to XBOX live, promised and delivered. Getting GTA 4 day and date with Sony, implied and delivered. Getting more quality games on Arcade-- promised and soon to be delivered. The content on Live right now, three demos this week, the Halo 3 trailer, etc. promised and delivered. I could go on... In contrast, Sony has simply stood back a tried to steal everyone elses ideas (i.e., ripping of XBOX live, even the quide button on the controller! Downloadable content, removeable hard drive, two-tier priciing, etc.) while staunchly refusing to do what people want, and instead cramming blu-ray down everyone's throats before it is needed, wanted or even necessary. Plus, they lie repeatedly-- where is Killzone this year? Should be playable, since last years video was in-game footage, right? Having to take the rumble feature out of their controller to shove in the motion sensitivity they stole from Nintendo? What about the fact they lost their lawsuit and appeal over stealing said rumble technology and legally CANNOT use it? Sony's strategy with the PS3 is to use the Playstation brand to get as many blu-ray players in peoples homes as possible, thereby insuring they "win" the HD video format wars. Why? they own and control all aspects of blu-ray, and will make money on every movie, game, or whatever put on a blu-ray disc. What about games and gamers? They could care less. Between this attitude and their pricing structure, they have, just like Solid Snake, crammed the gun in their mouth. After this holiday season, I'm afraid, they will be forced to pull the trigger.... 18 -

I love MGS4 as much as any PsFanboy, but I am not going to pay $600 for a machine that does the same thing as the 360. Then on top of that pay for Blu-Ray disc that are $70 dollars a pop which most of the information is for sercurity so I cant copy movies. This is why I hate PS3 fanboy's because they do not get it. They just bend over when Ken tells them too. 20 -
