They'd lose loads of credability, and hand even more sales to MS. I think they will launch on the intended dates, but there won't be many consoles in stores. Something similar to the 360 launch comes to mind, but probably worse. I couldn't care less anyway, I want a PS3, but I'm not paying over $700+ for a console, pad and game. Sorry, but for that I can get a nice HD TV for my X360 which I desperatly need! 4 -

Perhaps I missed the history lesson that talked about the giant crab invasions hitting Japan. In all honesty Sony is in real financial trouble. If the PS3 is not a success, get ready to see Sony purchased by another company! They are well behind the competition at this point, and things are only going to get worse with all the GREAT releases coming to the 360. Halo 3, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Bioshock....need I go on?? Sony gets what...Heavenly sword and Assasins creed (which consequently costs 499 as it needs to run on a 360). HAHA Will the last fanboy to leave Sony please turn off the console! 9 -
FreeMonk 05.14.2006 10:00 ^^Yep, I have to agree that the PS3 COULD be better than the X360, but even if it is better, Sony will struggle with that price of theres. You have to realise that the main buyers of the PS1 & PS2 are adults aged 18-24, most of which are still at college or university. Now these guys struggle to pay for food, laundry, beer and weed, nevermind a $600 console plus $60-$70 for a game and $30-$40 for another controller. I have no doubt that the Sony PS3 will be a good console, but Sony have shot themselves in the foot with adding a Blu-Ray drive into the PS3 when it's clearly not needed. They could of done the same thing as MS and offered a Blu-Ray drive seperatly, giving the consumer the option of buying it. Even if they sold a Blu-Ray drive seperatly for $200, it still would of been cheaper than a stand-alone version, plus the price of the PS3 would be lower. You read any write up about people conclusions about E3 or watch any round-up videos from sites, and the same thing keeps popping up about the problem with the PS3, PRICE! Says it all. 10 -

About the time they start understanding how to make games for the cell technology maybe around 2008-2009 for the PS3 MS would be ready to make their 3rd XBOX. Plus there is a article that states blu ray may fail. So why the Hell anybody want to get a $600 failing system. what sense would it make to get Blu ray and nobody is making movies for it. Companies are definitely not making Blu Ray games. So I feel the end has come for Sony when it comes to making console. I agree that it will be good. Secondly, I said the most 18-24 years olds, not EVERY 18-24 year old. You are one of the lucky ones, but according to friends of mine who are in that age range and at college/uni said that they wouldn't be able to afford a $600 console plus game and controller. Thirdly, I'm not the only person to think this. Read or watch ANY article about PS3, and 99% of them say that the price is expensive. Very expensive compared to the 360 (which may price drop before the PS3 arrives), and especially the Wii. Click on Gametrailers and watch there E3 roundups. All 6+ presenters say the same thing. Cost is a major issue to most people. There are people out there who can afford and wouldn't mind paying $700+ for a PS3, games and controller (me included), but there are a huge amount of people out there who won't, and that could cause a problem for Sony. Take blu-ray out, and make it optional. Lower price for the console without Blu-Ray, and Sony will sell bucket loads. With blu-ray standard and high price, could...COULD!, cause problems. 15 -
ps3Unregistered - mike111 05.14.2006 15:13 i am an xbox 360 fanboy but a different breed of fanboy, a hybrid. i act as an observer of all other consoles. i will not shout stupid sh*t to people about how 360 rules and how ps3 will burn big time bla bla bla...instead i will back up why i think the 360 is the best console, with balanced reasons, considering others opinions and`accept that microsoft has competition. all i will say is that i think there are two things that can affect the performance of a console. games and cost. in my opinion, ps3 fails in both areas. playstation has more games- but are they exactly all AAA titles- no, i thought not. you have the big games with endless sequels, and all the rest are just average or japanese. not racist, just don't like their games. i want originality and the xbox and 360 have these in spades. do i want to play MGS4, Tekken 6, Gran Turismo 5( is it five or four!!!) killzone 2, final fantasy X11- no. do i want to play Too Human trilogy, Mass Effect, Gears of War, Saint's Row, Just Cause, Prey, Overlord, The Club, H A L O 3---yes, i do want to play these games, and what an exhaustive list it is.. 16 -

XBOX 360 only and maybe xbox and pc but not ps3. And I believe there's 1 or 2 more on there as well that's wrong. Also, ps3 will "NOT" E V E R look better than the XBOX 360 due to the peice of SH*T rsx graphics and cell bottlenecking, it's all wrong for games and only best for pc internet functions. So while there could potentially be an equal and I mean only potentially, there will never be a better game, It's impossible due to "ALL" that's wrong for the ps3. The reason nobody ever says anything bad about it is because if they lost there edge then many people would never buy games again and without competition there would be know money made for developers! I just really think that price is just to unreal and I for 1 cannot afford one! I barely was able to get the 360 premium for that set me back a couple of months and would have to be crazy to even think of a PS3 right now! They do have some nice looking games coming out but like I said for someone like myself it's just to much! Islandkiwi 05.14.2006 20:45 The main issue here is not whether the PS3 will be a good system. The issue is that it is supposed to make a worldwide release November of this year. Basically it is following the same pattern Microsoft did, which will mean console shortages. But when Microsoft had the problem, there was no competition. When Sony enters the market, there will be two consoles ready to pick up the slack. And add to that Microsoft's upcoming game library, and a lower price...the holiday season looks bright for Microsoft and Nintendo. 33 -

My personal view on that is that Sony's release dates are not normally that reliable as of late. The PSP is a perfect example. Sony said that the PSP would be released a month or two after the US release in Europe. Instead it came just under a year after the US release. Same thing has happened before with the PS1 and PS2 in Europe as well. Apparently from the rumor mill, the final specs of the PS3 are still not final, meaning that they've not even started mass production on the console yet, with 6 months to go until release date with 2 million consoles to produce, ship and distribute, it may be a tall order. I can see a similar situation to MS 360 launch, with only a handful of consoles at each store. That's why's its a good idea to reserve one now if you want one. I'm reserving two, 1 for myself and one for a lucky Ebayer who'll pay me double the price for the console, which pays me for my second one. The only way I'll get a PS3 at launch! 36 -

Sony's desire to stand behind a format that will reap them vast riches if successful will (in my opinion) be the straw that broke the company bank!! All they have done with their formats is caused confusion for the consumer. Imagine all companies jointly producing and agreeing upon a single standard platform. No worries about technical obsolescence...no worries about media that simply has nothing to play on, no worries about both formats simply imploding due to confusion. I ask each of the Sony fans to REALLY think about why Sony is insisting upon a Blueray drive in the PS3....if you think it has ANYTHING to do with games you are fooling yourself. Sony is salivating, hoping that they can sell as many PS3's as possible so that they can show these movie studios (the ones recently burned by UMD) to stand behind their format due to the numbers. In the end, I think HD-DVD will emerge the victor! It does not require each of the DVD processing plants to completely gut and replace their infrastructure. FreeMonk 05.14.2006 22:45 ^^ You missed one example out: Sony Minidisc vs MP3 - Sony lost! HD-DVD has a huge advantage, just like MS has, because it's out first! Anyone who is into movies big time and has a HD-TV would of probably bought a standalone HD-DVD player by now. All the HD-DVD players have sold out. 6 months head start before Blu-Ray arrives. I'm not saying that Blu-Ray will fail, but I think the deciding factor of the Blu-Rays success or not all stands on the PS3, because that is the product that is promoting and advertising Blu-Ray. I can't really comment, because I have yet to get a HD-TV (July baby!! Money will be saved, come here my little 50" Pioneer!), but if the picture and sound quality is the same on each format, but I have to give some special features up for HD-DVD at a cheaper price, I'll choose HD-DVD, because no way am I starting yet another film collection when I have my DVD collection already. 39 -

Lets face it, Japan celebrates christmas just as we do and if they can't get those PS3's out in november like they claimed they will, then they'll just end up collecting dust on store shelves instead. Everyone is broke after the holiday season, so if you can't get it out before christmas, then they might as well wait until late spring/early summer of 2007 to launch. But then again, with the price point, a lot of parents will likely pick up the Wii or 360 for their kids this christmas. Similar the dull showing at Sony's press con, the floor demo failed to impress. This was simply GT4 running at ultra-high res. Lighting was the same, textures were the same... EA's Madden 07 also had a playable in the PlayStation 3 booth, but it failed to impress. Graphically, the game looked very very early, so early that it looked inferior to its Xbox 360 counterpart. Since I'm not a Madden guy, I deferred to my new friend Kelsey's expertise, who seemed to overwhelmingly enjoy the game. So much for the ps3... 46 -

My takeaway from E3 is that there is simply no way that Sony will be able to launch this thing in the next 6 months. Devs dont even have final kits, cell processor yields are horrid, the stand out titles (GT HD, and Assassins Creed) weren't even running on the PS3. I am hearing "I will wait" from more than a few die hard Sony fans.....that is simply NOT GOOD! Sony is already in trouble. 47 -

let me count the waysUnregistered - bigd 05.16.2006 03:39 Let me count the ways the 360 rules and the ps3 drools 1. the 360 is out and has great games right now 2. the price of either 360 is affordable 3. hd dvd is better as a add on than being forced to have one built in 4. sony can never touch xbox live 5. xbox games are of quality, while the ps pumps out garbage 6. how about 360 being inovating while ps3 copies other companies 7. rumble in the controler.
