Lik-Sang, purveyor of all things accessory, has spilled the beans about the Xbox 360 HDMI Cable. After Microsoft’s HD DVD announcement at E3, people were wondering whether HD DVDs would be capable of playing at full resolution on analog component cables, since there was no HDMI cable available for the 360. Well, that particular question hasn’t been solved, but we do know that there is an HDMI cable for the 360.

Unregistered - TheBLAHBLAHBLAH 05.15.2006 15:15 two HDMI ports? they looked liked USB ports last time i looked. Unregistered - Retard 05.15.2006 15:22 It has One mini-USB connects to console, and two extra USB ports for accessories... Unregistered - Retard 05.15.2006 15:23 Oh yeah and it plugs in the console retard! That is where the video out is! Amazon has a HDMI cable listed but it really is a component cable... assjacket 05.15.2006 15:27 I want them to release the HDMI cable simply so I can free up the input that my 360 is using on the back of my TV. All of my component inputs are taken and the HDMI just sits there unused. Bring that shizat! Unregistered - tommy 05.15.2006 16:47 i wonder if they will release a dvi cable,my hdtv is dvi only buts its hdcp ready, hopefully there will be some sort of adapter like hdmi to dvi.... Unregistered - FAMO 05.15.2006 17:07 R u sure those are USB? The pics I saw looked like HDMI.. I have a HDMI for my DVD player and thats what the ports look like. They are too big for the USB. The 360 has USB and its way smaller. I am pretty sure their is 2 hdmi outputs on the hd dvd player!!! THERE HAS TO BE ATLEAST 1 HDMI!!! Unregistered - famo 05.15.2006 17:16 http://www.planetxbox360.com/index.php?view=article&article=1325...Go here to see the pictures of the dvd player. I see 1 USB and 2 HDMI outputs in the back. Am I BLIND? I looked up the HDMI cord online and it fits the outputs perfectly.... No one kill me if I am wrong but do you guys see 2 hdmi outputs? Make sure you know what the cord looks like first before crusifying me! Unregistered - famo 05.15.2006 17:18 I think you can buy an adaptor to put on your tv for that. I am almost sure b/c my friend bought 1 yesterday at best buy for like 35$!!! Can't you plug into your componet outputs? Unregistered - Wacky Weed 05.15.2006 17:29 Here is HDMI. http://www.hometheatermag.com/images/archivesart/1105hook.15.jpg Those are USB's on the dvd player, NOT HDMI. Unregistered - shotty 05.15.2006 17:47 It's usb that's on the hd-dvd drive. HDMI is way bigger than the usb slots, HDMI is only slightly smaller than the DVI ports. The HD-DVD for the xbox 360 has 2 usb 2.0 and for some reason a 1 small usb 2.0. Don't ask why but maybe their coming our with their own cable or something. PAUL CERULA 05.15.2006 17:48 Wow, guys don't you know what a USB is. HDMI is quite different, but it's a simple mistake I guess. They even said the player was gonna connect through USB, but than the question is why is there two. So in the end you have 2 free USB's on the HD-DVD player after connecting through that little output USB. What I want to see is the ability to plug the camera in the back of the HD-DVD player so it free's up the USB ports in the front of the 360. One of the most fantastic features about playing DVD's on the 360 is it upscales the resolution cause it goes through component cables. It's amazing if you have a HDTV. That's why I never worried about blu-ray cause the difference isn't as big now, and blu-ray might not catch. Unregistered - FadeToBlack 05.15.2006 17:55 You guys must not know what HDMI ports look like. And yes Component cables are capable of 1080p signal. Unregistered - cannon 05.15.2006 17:59 MS you need to make a DVI cable so i can play in high-def through my projector. A 100 inch high-def screen is so sweet, cause no one makes high-def tvs that big. I can already watch t.v. at 100 inches in high-def. I just need a DVI cable for the 360. So MS please listen to me and make a DVI cable for the 360. Cause projectors dont have component inputs. Or atleast mine dosent. Unregistered - haha 05.15.2006 18:07 and the xf@gs were saying NA microsoft does not copy. RIGHTTTTT ;) Unregistered - famo 05.15.2006 18:22 Hey isn't the second USB for the wireless connection. Thats why the holes are at the top to clip th wireless in!! I have wireless and after you connect the USB into the 360 their isn't any room for the wireless so that must be what the 2nd USB is for along with the clip holes~! I could be wrong thou I was about the HDMI!!! LOL... Unregistered - shotty 05.15.2006 18:28 So basically if you buy the HD-DVD drive and don't have the wifi adapter then you willng have 4 USB ports. IF you have the wifi adapter it locks to the back of the HD-DVD drive and takes up 1 USB port therefore leaving 3 USB ports. I don't own a wifi adapter and perfer the ethernet cable so I get to have 4 USB ports. Atleast the xbox 360 has a USB port at the back the ps3 would have had to have the drive pluged into the front because it's USB ports are in the front. Unregistered - Josh 05.15.2006 18:34 A USB port does not have a specific function and it can connect to different devices. You could plug anything into the back of the HD-DVD player. Two more wired controllers, a wireless adapter, the camera, an external hard drive, your iPod, your PSP, anything. Those two holes may be designed for the wireless adapter, but I did know it had anything on the back of it to connect to something. xbox360rocks 05.15.2006 19:17 I don't remember numbers, but I'm pretty sure Microsoft already has the DVI one, I'm an idiot and thought my cables were bad so they sent me new ones but sent the wrong ones and I'm pretty sure it was DVI ones. Yea than I found out my old ones were ok but hey now I got two sets, lol. xbox360rocks 05.15.2006 19:23 Now that you've collected yourself after that bit of hysteria, we can tell you the (non-functional) drive itself had only a power plug (which looked to be of the variety that runs to the wall, no adapter required), a mini USB host port for connecting to the 360, two full USB ports for the device to otherwise act as a USB hub, and a spot for your 360 WiFi adapter to latch on the back since it could possibly be displaced by the use of the rear USB port to get this thing running on the console xbox360rocks 05.15.2006 19:23 ^^ from ENGADGET Unregistered - shotty 05.15.2006 19:32 HDMI and DVI are the exact same thing and carry the exact same signal. The only difference is HDMI has a few extra connectors to also carry the audio signal. You can get a HDMI/DVI adapter that will take the video signal from the HDMI cable and send it through the DVI wire and in the process removes the audio component. Thats the only difference. They have the exact same video quality and even carry the EXACT same video signal. Therefore the ONLY difference is HDMI carries both video and audio and DVI carries only video. Therefore if you are using DVI you will need a second cable to carry the audio such as the toslink optical cable, coaxial cable or even the standard red/white audio cables. Its no biggie if the cable is HDMI because any cheap adapter will turn it to DVI with the same video quality. Unregistered - shotty 05.15.2006 19:34 Oh and I forgot the 2 cables look different but are nearly identical in size with HDMI slightly smaller. HDMI looks like a wide USB port and DVI looks like those parralel ports we used in the old printers but is a different cable so no the printer cables can't be used. omegaheat 05.15.2006 22:46 When I look at the little guy, it resembles a miniature Xbox360. As much as I support Microsoft's perseverance to satisfy the consumer. However, I don't think Microsoft needed to announce an Hd dvd player to compete with Sony's mistake and blatantly forceful marketing of the blue-ray player. I'm glad that Hd Dvd player will only be used for hi def movies and not games. It would be detrimental to have another SegaCD/32X on our hands. I see Microsoft are really standing behind that whole flexible thing. I support them, but I bought my Xbox360 for a gaming console with online features. xbox360rocks 05.15.2006 23:29 well said...best thing is you got that and you have the CHOICE to have more if you want to, which is so neat. I'd rather have my 360, than a $600 PS3, with games that are most likely $70 since their in Blu-ray, and extra controllers which are most likely going to be $80 or up considering their bluetooth wireless enabled, and motion sensing. Look at how much those ear peices are for cell phones, their anywhere from $70-125. I think Sony has pushed their machine to a market that's not remotely consumer friendly. It will succeed but I could never rationalize, 2 games, a PS3, and an extra controller at launch for $850 after tax. When I got two games, and my 360 at launch for $435 with my 20% target discount, lucky me I know :) Unregistered - uuuunvnv 05.15.2006 23:52 off of planet 360 Major Nelson spotted something when he was watching a video of Sony's presentation regarding their free online service. Apparently it is simply equivalent to Xbox Live Silver, with no match making or playing abilities. Check out the video below which shows the relevant portion of the Sony presentation, doesn't it seem a lot like Xbox Live Silver (which is also free) to you? So much for in-game advertising and all the other possible ways being bandied around for Sony to support what we thought was a 100% completely free online gaming experience. once again sony lies lies lies lies lies............ Unregistered - ryan 05.16.2006 00:03 Take a look around the internet, HDMI cables aren't cheap...especially brand name cables. The HDMI cable will probably sell for $60 to $80. Since the HD-DVD player will be unable to play HD movies without an HDMI cable, it MUST come bundled with one. Probably jacking up the price to $250 or $300. In the end, it will cost almost as much as a PS3 to watch HD movies. Unregistered - sony sucks 05.16.2006 00:09 ughhhh i know this is a stupid question but whats a HDMI???? =) PAUL CERULA 05.16.2006 00:25 HDMI is just another way to connect your HDTV. Like component cables use green, blue, red for high def.. It's a small upgrade and really you won't notice the difference unless your on a huge screen....Like 40inch+. PS3 boasted a HDMI for 1080p for the longest time, but again MS fired back. And it doesn't matter too much anyways. Unregistered - xbox 360 05.16.2006 03:44 Man, the 360 is a nice peice of hard ware. I love having the ability to play hidef games on a 40" hidef tv, with my gorgeous wireless controller with vibration feedback, customized soundtrack for ingame playback (i love it), and xbox live. Its the greatest thing in gaming as far as im concerened. Now im not into watching movies on my console however it is cool that it has a progressive scan dvd player built in. And if anyone knows about progressive scan dvd players and hd televions, the pictures is phenomanal. Makes regular dvd's look astounding. Im not big on add ons so of course i'll skip the hd dvd player. I'd rather have a stand alone. Sony may have a nice system but a thousand dollars for a console is ridiculous especially since no one asked for blu ray. MS has the better deal in my eyes. And i cant help but to reinterate the custom soundtrack feat. I mean i have like close to 500 songs on my harddrive and when i want to i just hit the x pull up the menu and have the music playing just loud enough to hear with out overwhelming the ingame sounds its just brilliant infact that was my main purpose of buying the 360 but i didnt think it'll be this great. If the ps3 would have had custom soundtrack for in game play back and vibration in their controller i would have gotten one after some price drops but now it only seems second rate even with blue ray and blue tooth. The customization, and over all experience that the xbox 360 brings with gaming is unmatched by any. I love it..... Unregistered - richie 05.16.2006 04:29 guys i'm an xbox fan threw and threw but wen this hddvd comes out does'nt the amount of noise the 360 makes bother u,and don't u thing it effect your enjoyment is there anyway we can reduce the noise. Unregistered - Jeremy 05.16.2006 08:51 You dont really notice the noise the 360 makes untill you turn iy off and then your like WOW that thing IS loud!!!! Doesnt really bother me though Unregistered - 360 Rules! 05.16.2006 08:57 I saw that website since before launch when i was trying to see if the XBOX 360 has an HDMI output! I think that its not official, its just guessing! They might use the component cables for delivering 1080p HDTV becuase the HD-DVD and the Blu-Ray camps agreed with the movie market to imply the HDCP security till 2010. Unregistered - famo 05.16.2006 10:11 I doubt the 360 will be noisey when watching a hd dvd movie. The disc drive makes the most noise and won;t be in use when watching movies.. I have had my 360 since launch and I hear everyone complaining about noise but mine isn't very loud at all. I guess I got lucky. Also the price on the HD DVD most likely will be 200$.. I was in Best Buy yesterday and saw the toshiba hd dvd (500$)playing a movie on the lcd and it looked sweet. I hope MS releases the drive for 150$ or under other wise I probably won't buy it b/c I already have a hd upconvertible dvd player. Unregistered - Noise 05.16.2006 15:49 Guys to be honest, when you are playing the 360 and having fun your not noticing any noise but if you are up late at night and the volumn is low and the house is kinda quiet yeah you notice noise but then again its not bad at all its actually normal.
