We knew this day was coming sooner or later. The question is, is this the beginning or another dead as reported before? The 360 firmware was released by Commondore4eva last night and according to his notes allows one to boot original Xbox titles along with Xbox 360 titles.

I would not want to be banned from XBOX live (which I am sure can be done with a firmware snoop) just to play a few 'back up' games!! FreeMonk 05.16.2006 09:03 X-Box Live is not going to matter to a vast majority of people. If they can play backups of games, they might as well get another console and just not link it to the internet, hence MS ain't going to be detecting anything. Shame about this. Seems that people are getting closer and closer to cracking the 360 wide open! Unregistered - 05.16.2006 10:22 Cracking it wide open? Umm, no. They are no closer than they were months ago. This firmware update still seems to requires the original key from each XBox 360 to make their backups. Also, it's a brick waiting to happen anyway. One has to connect the XBox 360's DVD drive to the PC, write Firmware A into the DVD drive, just to make the backups. Then one has to write Firmware B back into the DVD drive and put the XBox 360 back together again to play the backups. Screw that! I'm not going to write firmware twice every time I want to make a new set of backups. I'm not going to take apart and put together the 360 every time I want to make a new set of backups. If you can't afford to buy games, just use GameFly... $36 per month for 4 games at a time. Break it down to a "per game" price, and you are looking at $9 for a game, per month. You could keep their game for 3 months and return it, paying less than half of what it would have cost to buy it new from retail. Ask yourself if you really need a big collection of games, anyway. I have about 15 XBox 360 games, and I have only played about 5 of them in the last 30 days. I got most of mine off eBay, new and sealed, for about $45 shipped, so I've spent nearly $700 on games. I could pay for 20 months of GameFly with that and 20 months from now, I could play the newest games, or revisit the "older" ones. If you don't play more than about 5 games at a time, then you probably don't need a big library of games... just rent them. Unregistered - huh 05.16.2006 12:55 Who cares, hackin is fer nerds.
