Sony online blowsUnregistered - Sony Lies 05.16.2006 07:40 Sony online not offering gameplay for free GASP, but truthfully anyone who watched the press conference coul;d have told you that!! Sony online is yet another nickel and dime the consumer approach. Time was actually spent talking about micro transactions for music (what game developer in the audience would even care about that). What I see is an attempt by Sony to produce an Itunes competitor, an HD-DVD competitor, with games and importantly game developers lumped in as an afterthought. Sony's philosophy of poor development tools, and difficulty with respect to the platform is legendary. In this round all the developers are already toying with the 360, with XNA, and ease of development, some may ask why bother with respect to Sony. Last generation developers had to go along with these issues due to install base. This generation MS will have the jump on install base (potentially 10 million) so we will see!!! 7 -

I only posted last week on one of the news topics to someone saying PS3 online would be free and I said it wouldnt and you would have to be nieve to think it would be free. Why on earth would someone believe a company would give you something for nothing? They always have to make up the cost somewhere for network and manpower costs. 8 -

......MikeIsOnFire84 05.16.2006 09:49 I purchased the Xbox360 only because it came out first,not because I wanted it more.After all this negative press over the last year or so about the Playstation 3,the xbox has become my console of choice.I had to buy 3 sony playstation 2's and only one xbox,so that should tell you something about sonys quality.Not to mention I had about 10 to 15 games that were blue discs and they wouldnt even play on the new playstationS I had to buy.I was never one to jump on any console bandwagon,but the 360 has impressed me so much and given me a reason to support one console over the other.Viva La 360! 13 -

No, 360!THELANDSOFSAND 05.16.2006 10:45 I have to agree about the wii- after the inital thrill of waving the controller around you are back in gamecube land- 4 of the same nintendo titles over and over again and barely any 3rd party support. and a lot of kids games. still i may get one for $250, because thats just CHEEEAP (a little more than the planned HD-DVD drive) and i used to be a nintendo fan... actually, no, i'll just use the money to buy saints row, viva pinita, lost planet, dead rising and gears of war. because they are going to be f-ing awesome. and the ps3 is tragic. sony... what are you guys thinking?!!? this might be the most pathetic, dull hardware launch since the 32x (remember that genesis mushroom crap! better design than the ps3 though! lol) The sadest thing about sony's live service is that they wont have a universal game playing service like live, just crappy in game, in house, developers-server based gameplay- just like the ps2. which didn't take off. Playing against friends on xbox live gold is a treat, worth every penny of the 6 dollars a month i pay. Sony have SO MUCH WORK to do to even compete with this service... Microsoft's nailed it. 16 -

I went on recoreded saying that this online service is free only for the basic service, but did any of the PS3 Fans believe me? No!!!! For number # 14, did you play the Wii? This Wii turn a lot of people into a believer, because of it's innovative controller so give Nintendo respect for bringing Non gamers to games for the first time. So what if it doesn't have GTA. GTA isn't the only great game, and it sure is not the best game ever. Oblivion beats GTA big time!!! I would still buy a PS3 either in 2007 or wait until the price goes down. Only thing about the PS3 that bugs me is the fact that it's a gimmick of every system, making it unorginal. Sony needs to come up with it's own ideas. 17 -

They realize that the average consumer will hear the initial hype, make up their mind, and then not follow up. I just hope more and more people see Sony for what they really are. I actually feel bad for the blind Sony fans that will be getting ripped off so badly. Sony is targeting gamers to drive the rest of its failing business and unfortunately, people will fall for it. Wii in theory is cool, but the novelty will wear off very shortly. Add to that fact the system isn't very powerful, is rife with kiddie games, and has very little third party support, it will stay with its niche audience and not gain much ground. At least it will be cheap, though. 20 -
Wii and ps3Unregistered - Xgamer 05.16.2006 14:18 The graphics for both the Wii and the ps3 werent very good, more along the lines of the original gamecube and ps2 graphics. I'm sure with time they'll be better but maybe not. We all know nintendo always makes a good machine, more so for kids under 12 but still very good. The ps3 is a major disapointment. The bottleneck 3 is vastly bad graphics and it still cant eve play them, sad to see such a big waist on this for sony. What games was to see thelight of day on the ps3 will come to the XBOX 360 since the companies will amost have to b/c the sony system sucks so bad. What designer wants to release games on a subpar gaming system that struggles to put it all together. The XBOX 360 will get it all and more. Be patient. 2006 will be great for MS but 2007 is where the real strength will begin to shine with all the superior games. 21 -

All Sony did was leave it up to the developers to charge people online fees because their the ones making it. They've confirmed that's how it's going to be already. But since this deals with sony fanboys they don't look into it completely. If you truly believe that the publishers are going to build data centres, build user interfaces, network stacks, run bandwidth costs, egress costs, do compatibility with every provider around the world... For free, your crazy. It could even cost more than 50 bucks every 13 months depending on what and how many games you play. Just to clear it up Sony's doing the same price strategy. Everything's free except multiplayer with the 360. With Sony they've left the price for the developers to charge and choose. The two giants are going for broke...literally. Microsoft has LOST well over six billion since they launched the Xbox. And because the threat is so big, Sony is willing to lose about $200 per unit on the PS3 which may translate into losses of over 2 billion dollars in just the first year of launch. For Sony to invest in an online infrastructure similar to Xbox Live would mean initial development costs of about two billion dollars. MS may be a relatively new entrant into the console wars, however it's online infrastructure is YEARS ahead of Sony's. If the tech advantage between the two next-gen consoles is unclear, the online advantage is not. MS has cultivated an online presence that is an unquestionable winner.
