You have to take apart the 360 take out your dvd drive then connect it to your computer to flash it. Then it only allows you to play backed up games. You must use a doulbe density disc and Live will most likely detect the mod and ban you from live for life. MS don't play with that banning crap you would need to register with a different name and address to get back into live. Oh one last thing even with this mod you can only play games from your region no imports. Unregistered - a 05.17.2006 07:37 They can't connect to live and if they do, banned forever. Nice job genius. Unregistered - boostin 05.17.2006 08:01 yah you cant just get a new live account either. they ban your 360 serial number. you would need a different console too. Unregistered - H@x0r 05.17.2006 08:50 As someone who modded the original XBOX to no end, I have to say that for the 360 it simply isnt worth it. The live experience is really where it is at this time around, and without it, well it simply would not be the same. Not to condone this behavior, but there is a switching procedure available that allows you to have two firmware revisions available to you (Commodores, and legit) for offline/online. The process is anything but simple, and still requires you to take apart the 360. NOT worth it! Unregistered - Nitz 05.17.2006 09:01 NOt worth it at all. XBL is the BEST thing about the 360. Don't be so cheap and PAY FOR YOUR STUFF Unregistered - joe 05.17.2006 09:03 they cant detect the hack they can possibly implement new hardware into thee drive on new xbox's Unregistered - boostin 05.17.2006 09:41 how do you know they cant detect it? Unregistered - 360 05.17.2006 09:44 If i have to sacrifice my xbox live account, open my beautifull 360 and risk it, NEVER. eehh!! when i opened my original xbox, it wasn't the same love. Make your numbers, if you buy a core system just to modify it and never connect it to live, you spend around US 320.00, but maybe microsoft will release games that needs mandatory dashboard updates to play it. Ummmmmm!! Let's see what is microsoft reaction for the next two months. Unregistered - Fizzle 05.17.2006 10:13 Like GRAW did. When I went to play GRAW when I first got it and was not on live, it told me a MANDATORY UPDATE was required. Did the update and all was good. Unregistered - la chancla 05.17.2006 10:15 this is great news!! now ill be able to buy games for 4$ each at mexico :) and it dosent look harmfull since its only a software mod instead of a hardware mod like the ps2 had Unregistered - mono 05.17.2006 10:49 no more updates, marketplace, friends, multiplayer online, and thats what makes the 360 worthy, not just playing games on solo mode, gj hacking it, but what do you get? nothing. MS just updates the console and bye bye 8 + months of worthless work. LOL! Unregistered - Clarity 05.17.2006 11:05 I sincerely doubt that MS would be able to dynamically update the firmware of the DVD drive through Live (although I could be wrong). Just thinking about that makes me leary! Imagine what would happen if during the update you have a power outtage, and managed to toast the drive....the 360 would be useless at that point. I DO think that they could put in a firmware check, which would verify which firmware revision the drive was running. Combine that with the mandatory updates and you have useless backup disks (a smart move by MS). Just as MS disabled the ability to play the unsigned Kiosk demo disk, they could implement a series of rolling mandatory updates for live. The cat and mouse game would simply not be worth the effort. Unregistered - shotty 05.17.2006 11:08 Not worth the trouble. There is no way to go on xbox live and use this mod at the same time because MS can easily brick the system. Also this mod only works on samsung drives and can only let you play back-up games. If you don't think you need xbox live and want to go through the grewsome process of modding go ahead. Its a pain you need a flash writer which is expensive you need to pull out the dvd drive plug to your PC reflash it and then do all this other crap all so you can play illegal games and never use live again. And guess what MS can do what sony did and put the updates on the actual game disc so you need to update to play the games. Unregistered - 05.17.2006 11:38 Won't be long imo till someone starts selling dualbank firmware chips for your dvd drive. Just switch between hacked and original firmwares and no issues if you want to go on live (as long as you remember to switch it!). I know there has already been one guy on xbox-scene to do this himself. Similar to how it worked on the original xbox. Modchips could be turned on or off and as long as the chip was off you could connect to live. Unregistered - shotty 05.17.2006 12:06 Microsoft can still detect dual boot chips. If you mod it so you can play back-up games then don't be dumb and go on xbox live unless you want your system bricked. Why would you want to mod it anyways there is no homebrew possibilities with this mod. They haven't touched the xbox 360 the only thing that has been moded is the samsung dvd-rom. Basically they change the boot-up sequence for the dvd-drive so it skips the disc check. Unregistered - ho 05.17.2006 13:39 Complete waste of time. The integration of the 360 to the internet is slowly making it obsolete to hack. The are ways to detect and thwart hackers through the online connection. Personally, it's not worth it to lose Live functionality. It's really what separates Xbox/MS from the rest of the consoles out there. omegaheat 05.17.2006 14:55 I can't see myself disecting such a beautiful console. I hate hackers. They can really screw up the market and make it hard for the rest of us gamers. Rest assure that the next generation of gaming, there will be no physical medium format. Every game will be downloaded from XboxLive or any other infrastructure. Bill Gates and Microsoft already stressed this issue, so don't be surprised when the next Xbox console becomes a full virtual console with games far less than what we are paying now. It will benefit the consumers and the developers because there will be no middle man distribution. Unregistered - 05.17.2006 16:41 This is why God created "Cores" Unregistered - Gamefly 05.17.2006 17:08 Why not simply sign up for a game rental service. It is relatively inexpensive, allows you to PLAY on live, and you have no concerns about hardware or software updates, or that MS will ban/brick the console. It will probably take you longer to disassemble the 360, remove the dvd drive, attach drive to computer, update firmware, place back in the 360, reassemble the 360, download the pirated game, burn the pirated, insert and cross fingers it works.....than to signup online and get your first title in the mail!! FreeMonk 05.17.2006 20:29 To be honest, the only thing Microsoft can do to attack this is go the way off Sony, and provide an automatic update from the game disc before it boots up. If not accepted, it won't boot. An automatic update from Live! won't do much good, because the chances are that they won't connect there 360 to Live if it's been modded, plus there's lots of people who still don't have Live! It's a shame, because like people said, without Live! where's the fun? Live! is part of gaming now, but unfortunatly, there are people out there who like to pirate games, and hack. Expect some major hackers on your live 360 games now. It was nice whilst it lasted! Unregistered - Prowler 05.18.2006 02:07 hmmmmm, interesting, guess i'll be doing this when the xbox has a price drop, so i can buy another one, cause i want to play dreamcast again, hopefully 360 will emulate dreamcast Unregistered - speed 05.22.2006 13:23 do you know how many thousands of dollars were saved on the original xbox?????
