The developers over at Rockstar San Diego have outlined the online element of the game in a recent chat with IGN. Lead Programmer Wil Paredes and network programmer John Gierach explained to them the nuances of online ping pong.

asdf 05.18.2006 11:52 I am far more excited about this game than I expected to be, it looks like perfection. I agree, though, about the difficulty of getting #1 in the world. I suppose it's better to err on that side, though, than on the EA Sports "you finished the season! you have all the achievements!" side. 5 -
