I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm pretty sure that anyone reading this knows someone or have themselves experienced the CD or DVD scratch nightmare at least once in their life and let’s face it, it sucks.
Read More Add Comment deepio 05.25.2006 08:49 The article says "Also take note you won't be able to play your backups as microsoft won't allow booting of dvd-r on your xbox360". All that effort for a backup of a game that you can't even use! You gotta ask yourself one question, WHAT IS THE FRIGGIN POINT?? Unregistered - Darktangent 05.25.2006 08:51 This was a well written article, it almost takes all of the stupidity out of popping open my $400 stress reliver and online communication system. My 360 is and will always stay unmodded. deepio 05.25.2006 08:52 I stand corrected, you can get a firmware patch or something to play backups. So there is a point after all. Unregistered - homer 05.25.2006 10:06 i think we as gamers should start a petition to get them to put a more durable coating on the dvd's nearly all of me old xbox games are unreadable, and this was never a problem back in the cartridge days anyone agree Unregistered - StL. 05.25.2006 10:28 I have owned disc-based games since the days of the PS1 and in all that time I have NEVER scratched a disc nor had to replace one due to wear. Considering that I will play about 500-750 games every year of Madden, it is not just due to light usage. "Back-ups" (wink-wink, nudge-nudge say no more squire) are quite simply a euphamism for "Pirated". Helpful hints: 1) do not handle the playable surface of ANY disc and especially not 360 game discs 2) do not EVER move your console during play 3) store your discs properly (ie. not in a big stack on the floor next to the console) 4) do not assist piracy because in the end it costs us all in higher prices for accessories, games and future consoles as well.... Unregistered - your name 05.25.2006 12:41 I agree with the first comment, WHY THE HELL AM I DOING THIS??? I thought the point of having a backup was to be able to play it if my other DVD got messed up! Unregistered - speed 05.25.2006 14:17 OK, this is about the 100th post I've had to make about this. The article says, "There seems to have been quite a big uproar about the Xbox 360 scratching discs whilst standing vertically but the truth of the matter is it doesn't do this unless you move the console whilst the disc is spinning". I'm SO tired of hearing this MS bucket of crap. The console CAN and DOES scratch disks without ANY movement of the console, and it can happen either vertically or horizontally. I should know I've had three Oblivion disks turn into coasters and I baby the hell out of my console and disks! The only thing that seems to prevent this for me was adding to the cooling system. A theory is that Oblivion cranks the disk drive so hard it unleashes ungodly heat in the 360 which then causes the disk to slightly warp and it then bumps around in the drive causing the scratching. With my new disk, and the intercooler installed, after around 20+ hours of play I have had no scratching, no game freezes, and I swear that load times seem to have improved slightly. The only other reason could be that my first 3 Oblivion disks had an engineering issue... Unregistered - skip doctor 05.25.2006 18:20 if ur having problems with scratched disks just go to and FYE music store,SAM GOODY, or a music store and buy the "d-skin"...it prevents scratches by covering the bottom of the dvd/cd with a plastic layer..it easy to put on, just put it under the cd/dvd, and u could remove it at anytime u want....its playable on the 360 too......
