Mindware Studios today announce their new title Voodoo Nights, a stylized action extravaganza. Jack and Samuel, two loose cannon cops, are on the trail of a deadly gang who know how to handle guns as well as insidious Voodoo magic. The key to their success is being a perfectly coordinated and synchronized team. Gameplay is based on the fast, dynamic, teamwork of two characters. When one runs for shelter, the other gives covering fire. When Jack levitates an enemy out from cover with a Voodoo spell, his partner can shoot the enemy down. Voodoo Nights is fast, furious and visually impressive. Gameplay summary: Voodoo Nights is a 'Buddy Game' concept. Two heroes offering the synergy well known from TV and movies brought to the video game for the first time! At the core of gameplay is the fast coordination of two characters. Players directly control one character (they can switch between the two at any time) and can assign simple commands to the second character ("go here", "attack him", "cover me"). The controls are simple (just one point and click with context results). Picture in picture greatly supports two-player gameplay, as a player can always see what both characters are looking at. When a situation is really challenging, a player can use the DeadTime mode, which helps him to control his actions in slow motion mode. Epic gunfights bring to mind Hollywood movies. The environment is destructible, with enemies utilizing the latest rag-doll physics. Big explosions are accentuated by camera and postproduction effects. Billed as a shooter, the player has many options on how to solve gameplay situations. Voodoo Nights Features: - Fast and dynamic coordination of two characters - Breathtaking gunfighting experience - Different solutions to many gameplay situations - Spectacular VooDoo Magic - Picture in Picture view - Stunning DeadTime mode Voodoo Night is being designed and created for PC and Microsoft's XBOX 360 subject to approval. ![]() ![]() ![]() Add Comment Unregistered - MrPuckDog 10.10.2005 09:46 Looks pretty sweet. I just hope I actually have a 360 to play on given the news of the shortages. Unregistered - Anonymous Coward360 10.10.2005 09:48 LOOKS GAYYY...NOT MY TYPE OF GAME JsonHenry 10.10.2005 09:50 Does this game come complete with a levy break and rampant crime/looting also? Silly New Orleans' voodoo people. Don't you know that you burn in hell for that sort of thing? Unregistered - WildAttorney 10.10.2005 09:55 Can't tell much thus far. The proof of the pudding will be in the tasting. By the way, I just finished the Games section of Spinning360.com. You should check it out. I actually did put up a page for Voodoo Nights, though at the time, no screens were available for it. I am updating against this evening. After weeks of grueling work, I have learned that there are about 150-160 announced games for the Xbox 360 (I know this now because I made sure spinning360.com had a page for each one). Where the real shooters at one got canned untill further notice Anyone any clue My guess is there wil;l be no real shooters huh Mr F*^&()&*) Allard resfan 10.10.2005 10:02 looks like a ripoff of res. evil 4 with that "over the shoulder view" JsonHenry 10.10.2005 10:14 I wish the vid card in the 360 was a seperate PCB part. That way I yank it out, and make a bull of a PC video card at a subsidised price. Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 10.10.2005 10:19 I am sure that there were other games before Resident Evil 4 that used the over the shoulder view. None come to mind but I am sure of it. JsonHenry 10.10.2005 10:30 Wan't Syphon Filter over the shoulder? hoodyofdoom 10.10.2005 10:43 i hate games like this to me the second person is just a liability i would rather be on my own. Unregistered - BulletTheory 10.10.2005 10:54 Oooh he wants to be a Voodoo child... or night :\ Sounds as if they are tying to impliment a new type of gameplay, but desn't sound exactly exciting. Screens look a bit dull. Pointing and clicking is best done with a mouse. JsonHenry 10.10.2005 10:57 #10, I agree. This sounds like that horrible Resident Evil Zero game. it would have been a fun RE game, but keeping up with two people sucks so much ass you might as well use sh!t for toothpaste, because it will leave you with a sh!tty taste in your mouth after playing for 10 minutes. Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 10.10.2005 10:59 I'm tired of all these horrible graphics being released for the xbox 360. I bet If they made this on ps3 they would make it look way better than this and then say it was gameplay. We need some new engines or something to make xbox 360 look better. Almost every game they show for the xbox 360 looks like something xbox can do. I'm not saying that it can do it I'm saying it looks like something that can be done on it. Do you agree? hoodyofdoom 10.10.2005 11:05 how is a cop going to have the ability to use "voodo" magic sounds like a realy dumb concept Unregistered - BulletTheory 10.10.2005 11:18 because he's a voodoo child yeaaah JsonHenry 10.10.2005 11:18 I CAN'T wait for the PS3 to finally hit store shelves. that way once and for all, people will stop saying the PS# is going to have superior graphics. What part of the RSX being based on a current Video card don't they get? It is NOT shader model 3.0 certified, it is NOT alloted more than 256megs of ram, and it IS going to be TWO GENERATIONS OLD by the time the PS3 hits store shelves!! Now, the PS3 WILL be capable of beautiful graphics, don't get me wrong, the RSX is still a powerful video card. I am just saying from a technical standpoint, the 360 is capable of free anti-aliasing, can use dynamically up to 400 megs of video ram, and it is shader model 3.0 compliant. Please, #13, do your homework. These games don't look like crap because either the PS3 or the 360 have poor video abilities, they suck because the people making them suck. Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 10.10.2005 11:22 Dang, is every game going to use the unreal engine? Becuase if this is true people is going to get tired of it real fast. Some people is already getting tired of the gears of war videos that has been released, and if you get tired of that then I feel real sorry for ya. I have a feeling that we is going to see these kind of graphics for a long time. I hope that halo 3 doesn't use this engine becuase if peoplle is already tired of it now, points will be takin away from it just becuase of that. Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 10.10.2005 11:23 damn right developers need too spend more then two minuts coming up with game concepts JsonHenry 10.10.2005 11:26 The unreal engine is not what people are going to get tired of people. You could have a dinsey game use the unreal engine and it look just like a cartoon. What people are getting tired of is the art direction being used. You can use any engine you want, but that doesn't mean you are going to use the same skin toolkit to make your video/visuals. Unregistered - Mighty Boom 10.10.2005 11:26 Speak in terms we can understand... We dont think you are smart, we think you are trying very hard to sound smart. Major annoyance.. Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 10.10.2005 11:37 I wasn't saying ps3 would look better because it is more powerful, I was saying that if it was on ps3 it would be a cg and then they would hafto do stuff to prove it is in game. I know what xbox 360 is capable of, and games like gears of war and pgr3 shows a little bit of what it can do, power wise. I said it before and I will say it again, gears of war looks just as good as mgs 4. I think you should have read it a little more closely. I said just about the same stuff you said. Games on the xbox 360 need to be build from the ground up. Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 10.10.2005 11:46 Yes it is because of the art style in it. When you see any game with the unreal engine you atamaticly know that it is the unreal engine. And I'm not trying to sound smart I'm just giveing you my opinion. You can use all the different skins you wan't, but it is still going to look like the unreal engine. Do you agree? Unregistered - Anonymouse 10.10.2005 12:36 if any one took time to look at the screen shots they would have seen that they are taken from .... the pc version have a look on xboxyde and you will see higher rez screen shots and the white writing says "press f1 for controle layout and press shift for crouch". your all slaging it off for having bad graphics and it aint the xbox360 version lol. and personally i dont care what "art direction" they use as long as the game is good. time splitters had odd art direction and it was still a cracking game..no? what do you want games to looklike reality. i thought we all played games to escape reality??? just a thought. :) JsonHenry 10.10.2005 12:50 #20- Who is trying to sound smart? I already thought I was putting it in pretty simple terms. Okay, let me try this again... There are a lot of games that use the old unreal engine, and I bet that you can't tell which ones use it, because it has nothing to do with the visuals. Once you pay to liscense a game engine, you can tweak, modify, and change it anyway you want. A good example is the Original Half-Life. It was ported to use the new Source Engine- but the game doesn't look one bit different because they didn't change the visuals/textures. Just look at the difference between Quake III arena and Soldier of Fortune II- both use the Quake III engine, but look nothing alike. That is because the SoF2 game uses the Ghost skin aplication. What I am saying is, sure, they may have bought rights to the Unreal III engine, but it is up to the developing house to actually make the textures, animations, and visuals in their own image. Hopefully you could understand that. I thought I made it pretty simple. Unregistered - Mighty Boom 10.10.2005 12:52 Can someone explain in detail what the "unreal Engine" is??? And Im not talking to one of you noobs who thinks they have an idea of what it is... Unregistered - Mighty Boom 10.10.2005 12:54 Dont choose teaching a profession... Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 10.10.2005 12:55 Dont choose teaching as a profession. Unregistered - BulletTheory 10.10.2005 13:31 Don't try teaching English. Notice how I said don't. JsonHenry 10.10.2005 13:32 #26 One more time... A game engine is like a piece of paper and a pen, and the developer is like a kid. We'll say the paper is 8"x11" and the pen is red. If you give that paper and pen to a bunch of kids, the paper will stay the same size, and all the ink will be red, but that doesn't mean the kids will all have the same exact picture. One could draw a cartoon character and the other could do a self portrait. A game engine is the same way. What the developers make the game look like is up to them, the engine is just a set of constraints on how big and what effects you can use. No one is getting tired of seeing the Unreal 3 engine, they are getting tired of seeing the developers use the same art style, as if they were copying off of each other. Does that makes sense? Unregistered - MIghty Boom 10.10.2005 13:46 Thanx dude... It's all clear now. Try duming it down some, it will help us that are not so tech savy... Is my grammer to your satisfaction? Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 10.10.2005 13:50 1. We have only 3 early pc screens. We have not 360screens , we have not 360 gameplay footage from this game. So every commnents about graphics quality is nugatory. 2. Xenos unified shaders architecture -in theory- is full compatible but also dominates current shaders 3.0 model capabilities. Follow the link of Beyond3D: http://www.beyond3d.com/articles/xenos/index.php?p=09 I recomend you to notice 3 last columns VertexShader3.0(vs3.0) / PixelShader3.0(ps3)/ Xenos. 3. If you want to play a real interactive moovie to feel gratified , you have to wait 1 or 2 generations after :/ I found 80% of 360 games far better than every game i could play with my desctop system. If somebody doesnt agree there is not reason to complain all the time. He can wait 12 moths to buy a ps3 :-) Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 10.10.2005 14:17 You said I was trying to be smart when I was just giving my opinion. Now I see what you is saying. Why do so many developers do the same thing with the unreal engine all the time? All we get with the unreal engine is some guy running on some kind of dark ship with monsters, while holding a gun. But you hafto admit I was right in some cases. Why do people always asume I am a ps3 fanboy all because I don't wan't to put up with crappy next gen graphics. Their is only a certain amount of games that look next gen on the xbox 360 and I don't care what nobody say. I hate playstation and don't plan on likeing it any time soon. playstation 1,and 2 is very crapy and I hate it, with that being said xbox 360 should look a lot better right now, not 1 or 2 years from now. JsonHenry 10.10.2005 15:07 #30 I was not trying to talk over people's heads or act superior or anything. I am just a PC fanatic that is jumping ship for the 360. The only reason I know these things about the game engines is because for some reason that sort of thing gets talked about on the PC a lot. The fact that you guys (console guys) even know what the Unreal Engine 3 is surprises me. Not because I think you are stupid, but because in the past, no one cared that a game like Rainbow Six 3 used the old Unreal Engine or not on a console, but most people that played the PC knew that it used it. Why I have no idea, maybe it is just PC fanboy snobbishness at its best. But I don't want you to think I was trying to be a ostentatious prick or anything. Anyway, I am sorry if you think I was trying to be a snob. And as far as your grammer is concerned, you are on a forum, who cares about grammer? JsonHenry 10.10.2005 15:09 #32 You're right, not all games look as next-gen as the next. Just remember though that not all games looked as good as Ninja Gaiden or Halo 2 either. Unregistered - Mighty Boom 10.10.2005 15:26 It was a joke, lighten up... JsonHenry 10.10.2005 15:42 #35 I just passed gas, does that count? Jason Lee 10.11.2005 02:23 Not feelin it, like some of the others not crazy about having to deal with two people and making sure they don't get snuffed or what not that, and the zombie/voodoo/cops and robbers theme is running rampant What I want to see is a next gen title in the shape of some retarded animal babies, or happy tree friends now that would be something to provide a change of pace. lol Unregistered - some person 10.11.2005 06:40 lol some old guy walking around with a shotgun...
