The November issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly (#197) is reporting that Sony may be waiting until “right before the Xbox 360 goes on sale this November” to “unveil its online plans.
Sony has apparently already confirmed a comparable service back at E3, but further details have been hard to come by. If true, the announcement may come later than next week’s PS3 entertainment festival, but it would certainly be used as another means to divert attention from the 360 in many parts of the world. Sony’s been dragging its feet for a while now with an excuse that it wants a unified online service to cover not only the PS3, but the PSP (and possibly PS2) as well. We’ll have to wait and see whether Sony pulls out its own Gamertags and Live-like Blades in any new service, however. Add Comment  1 -

Meaning that it's not that hard for another company (Sony) to make an online service just as good if not better the "X-Live". Sony may offer the same service Cheaper or Free, it may be a one time membership to use the service instead of a monthly fee. The fact is that MS doesn't own Online gaming they just made it better. It's not impossible to make the same thing for a different system console. I don't see why so many MS fans can't understand that MS didn't make online gaming. They don't own Copyrights to it, and they sure as hell can't stop Sony from making one of their own. The blades are genious, and the best Sony can do is hope to copy them. The amount of detail that you can go into about other people and their profiles is just unheard of and adds a real sense of community to XBL. 9 -

Sure MS doesn't "own" online gaming they are just a hell of a lot better at software development than Sony. MS has continuously improved their service since its inception, unlike Sony who has done virtually nothing with theirs. Additionally, we have seen nothing to make us think that it will be a true competitor with X live. It's funny to listen to Sony fanboys who think that the PS3 will rule in all areas of gaming this next generation. What they fail to take into consideration is that all these investments require money to develop and that sacrifices have to be made. If they are going to dump as much money into hardware as they claim it will probably be at the expense of other areas of gaming such as online content. It seems to me that MS's strategy is very well rounded. I am impressed with all aspects of their console not just in one area. Sony on the other hand, may, and i repeat, may, have scored in the hardware department but I think they may have lost out in others. We shall see I suppose. 10 -

That's what I don't like about the ps2 online, some people have dsl, some people have dial up, and it makes the service bad. To be truthful microsoft always tend to their costumers online. I don't know about you but I think that xbox live is still going to dominate in the online part. They have more experience than sony and could easly upgrade the online to what people wan't, while sony promises you the online in the future, xbox 360 will give it to you now. And remember, sony doesn't care for their cotumers! And that is very important in my opnion. Some people have even left sony for the lack of care for there costumers. Look at the Gamecube - Nintendo said that that online capabilities would be available. The broadband adapter came out like 2 years later with a couple of good games to play with. Multiplayer is a massive part of gaming now, and if companies don't have that in mind from the very beginning, then thats a whole big chunk of gaming that they are not including or using to its full potential. And I don't mean going round your mates and bringing a controller, online gaming is the big thing. Its true that Sony don't have as good customer service reviews as other companies, but perhaps its something they can rectify. Sony have very poor manufacturing standars - look at the PSP. Massive problem with dead pixels and dust under the screen. Very poor quality control. And if you wanted it fixed you had to shell out the cash for postage! Sony need to rectify their mistakes and come up with a full-on online service otherwise they could lose a huge section of the market. 14 -

Remember it takes money to do all this stuff and sony has already spent a lot of money on the harware of the ps3 so I don't expect them to come through with their promises on the live side. MS and Ninindo have had their fair share of problems but not as many as PS2 because they didn't sell as many consoles. If you have 300 apples some of them are going to be bad or bruised, but if you have 30,000 apples a lot more of them will be bad or Bruised. It's common sence, I have two PS2's one in my Truck and one at my house one of them is a first released Model and I never had a single Problem with it. The other one is about a year and a half old, no problems with it. The PS3 isn't going to be over 400$ it's not going to happen. Sony knows that if they do that it will cost them to much. The PS3 will most likely be between the price of the 299$ and 399$ 360 price. That will give the feeling that your getting a better machine with all the toys for a little less then the 360. But that's just a guess it's not facts and I know that. Only time will tell how this battle will end and I only wish it would get to the best part sooner. Later 23 -

Sony is making the Cell themselves and a few of the other parts to save on production cost, so that means it's only costing them a few cents to make the Cell Chip. It's just like making cars and trucks on a production line. It's all done with machines and they just go down the line one after the other and then they spend about $2000 making a $80,000 dollor car. 38 -

I got XBL first, and I tried playing PS2 online once, and it was so low tech and un-streamlined I realized how advanced XBL was. XBL is WAAAAY more streamlined and is easy to use. I got annoyed with making a new screenname for EVERY online game I played on PS2 Online. Not to mention that PS2 Online has way less OE (Online Enabled) titles that XBL and most OE games on PS2 are crap (ex. KillZone). I love XBox Live and I'm staying with it.
