Sony and Toshiba Seek Unified DVD Format

TOKYO (AP) - Sony Corp. and Toshiba Corp. said Thursday they are in negotiations about how to resolve their competing next-generation optical disk formats, aiming to give consumers a unified video technology. But both sides played down a report in the business daily Nihon Keizai Shimbun Thursday that said the Japanese electronics makers were on the verge of agreeing on a compromise 'hybrid' next-generation DVD format as soon as this month.

Activision today announced that a new Marvel game is officially in production. The new game dubbed Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is being created by Raven software and looks set to feature more comic book characters than any game before it.

New Gears of War Info out of OXM

There is some new info on Gears Of War in the latest issue of OXM. First of all, there have been some weapon tweaks. There will be one button for weapon reloading, and if players miss the reload opportunity the weapon will be locked for a time. Secondly, Epic has revised all of the animations and even re-motion-captured some of them. A button will do many things. When a player is being shot at it will force a roll, and it will also put the player into cover mode if there is cover nearby. Several multiplayer modes. One player can activate a light so the other player can attack the enemy. Send intructions to your friend's HUD. There will be an immense weapon called the "Hammer Of Dawn" which will literally devestate an entire map. There are also explosive arrows that can be fired. There is more check link.

Pre-E3 2006: Hands-on with Monster Madness

In development at Artificial Studios for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, Monster Madness is essentially a kill-em-all zombie and monster hunt, with a squad of four dopey teens wielding all kinds of dangerous weaponry to beat back the hordes. Each of the kids has his own main melee weapon to smash the skulls of the brain eaters who have taken over the town, but the fun really gets started when you open up with the game's big weaponry -- missile launchers, shotguns, machine guns, even chainsaws are all lying around to begin the splatterfest. And if they survive the night long enough to find power-ups, the kids can become a mummy, vampire, zombie or werewolf to do inhuman levels of death-dealing. Story isn't necessarily the focus of Monster Madness from what we've seen so far (multiplayer co-op play and versus play are the big draws here, as are the big bangs and bloodsplurts), but there will be FMVs sequences styled after comic books that parody horror and sci-fi clichés.

No Demo for DoAX2 at E3

Famitsu recently revealed that Team Ninjas latest creation Dead or Alive: Xtreme Volleyball 2 would be making an appearance at E3. Now it was first thought that the content at E3 would be a playable demo, but sadly it seems that only a video of the new game will be going to E3.
This hasn't officially been confirmed by Team Ninja or Tecmo, but it seems Famitsu aren't too far from the truth. We can only hope that the video of DoAX2 will keep us captivated for the time being.

Samurai Warriors 2 will be on the 360 at E3

Koei have churned out title after title. They have made themselves a household name in the gaming world with titles like Samurai Warriors and Dynasty Warriors. What's more they have already ventured into the domain of the next-generation with Dynasty Warriors 5, but it doesn't stop there.
Famitsu recently revealed that Koei was taking Samurai Warriors 2 on the PS2 to E3, it also looks like they will be taking Samurai Warriors 2 on the Xbox 360. The real question is what exactly does Samurai Warriors bring to the 360 that Dynasty Warriors hasn't. Looks like we'll have to wait for E3 to find out.
